Discovery in disarray.... ?

He emphasizes all the pressures on CSC and Basso. Looks like more of a psych game to me than not, saddling Basso with the 'favorite' mantle. That's always been his style in just about anything that he says.
LA has done this since returning to cycling after cancer. You would think these guys would have learned this by now.

I guess Simoni never heard of Marco Pantani...

"I'd like to try and hammer away at Armstrong in the mountains, perhaps I can even demolish him," Simoni said "He has never had to deal with a real climber before. The guys he has beaten have been time-triallists. If he's caught out, perhaps he will panic."

Marco was a great rider. But it took one strategically brain dead day on the part of Jan Ullrich for Marco to win that tour.

The strong Simoni years, where the years where Pantani was (unfortunally) struggling with himself....
tsk tsk, well what a bad day for Disco today.

Fair enough, but let us not count them out. All you need is a bad day in the last week and you can easily lose 5 minutes...

Bad day, yes. Disarray, No.

Savoldelli said, "The Giro is not finished here...I knew Basso was strongest and I knew that I wasn't on a good day right away when the climb started. I went into the red zone right away and couldn't hold the pace. Thanks to Danielson, I was able to limit the loss.

Just ask Basso.

I'm still here but was away in Spain for the weekend... got back a few hours ago and watched Saturday's and today's stage.... what can I say ? Indeed all my predications and prophecies about Discovery have come true. There was a lot of talk about Discovery's time trialing for them to only fail, there was a lot of talk about Il Falco having "thin arms" to climb better but only to fail, there was a lot of talk about "great white" little TommyD lighting up the mountains for it to come to nothing.... TommyD was dropped very early on, Savoldelli dropped with 13km to go and just couldn't keep up with the frantic pace that Sastre was setting.... what was interesting was the ease that Basso caught and went around Cuengo's attack..... Discovery are indeed in disarray.

Lance Armstrong put the kiss of death on the when he came to the Giro. Every since he visted the team has been internally combusting into nothingness..... there really isn't anymore to say... they are as second rate team who don't deserve there ProTour status and have to rely on ex-riders turining up to the race to generate some publicity.

Savoldelli is losing the battle due to DC two prong strategy with TommyD... he needs a team that supports him and him alone.

Discovery is in disarray.

Where is wbt???? I miss his insight on everything.

Good to have you back wbt...... If it wasn't for you , I would have never paid any attention to DC. I looked at the GC to see the disarray that DC was in and I realized that they are are the only team with 2 riders in the top 9 places. But you see it as "as second rate team who don't deserve there ProTour status." Interesting. What are your definitions of a team that deserves ProTour status?

Remember Riis has never managed a team that has won a GT...So that would put him as "second rate manager who does not deserve a ProTou team."

And what about TM???? Everyone talks as if Jan is the most talented rider in the peleton, but he hasn't won anything in 7 years as far as GT's go. Maybe TM is a
" second rate team who don't deserve their ProTour status." [Zabel aside, he is the one shining rider that TM has not screwed up]

Now I believe all these teams do not have a second rate status. But I would like you to point out why DC as the previous champion is a "second rate team when they have riders in the top 10.

Your tendency to exaggerate is quite humorous. The climb was only 12km, you would know this if you did your homework.:p
16:28 CEST 164km/7km to go
Savoldelli (Discovery) is now being dropped, as Rujano makes a big move from behind to chase back onto the lead group. Perez Cuapio is yo-yoing off the back.

I think, with the benefit of hindsight, that Salvoldelli has had two bad days now.

He needs to have a good day real soon now.

Is it too early to call a Basso double?

Edit: Basso is not like Armstrong. Basso is like Pantani. Pantani was leaving trails of struggling riders on the sides of mountains long before LA was reborn.

Basso is not in Pantani's class in the climbing area. Very few were. Before we annoint him king , shouldn't he do something impressive 1st? A Basso double? He hasn't won one yet......ever..... Today he had a good day, not a great day. He may never win a TDF unless his TT'ing skills increase.... And remember ..Big Jan may show up this year. And Basso may be a little better climber, but Jan will blow his doors off in the TT. And there are other riders out there far more motivated this year then they have been in the past with Armstrong's retirement. And when you look at TDF winners, as Armstrong and Indurain were, the TT skills play a major importance as long as they can climb.

I think Danielson did a good job for Il Falco today. No signs of disarray today...

You guys and your text updates ! I watched the race.. live ! I know what happened..... you're relying on someone typing into a keyboard on what’s happening... I watching it with my own eyes ! Who do you trust..... ? :)

Regardless if it was 13km or 7km... Savoldelli was beaten like a read-haired step child.... he had nothing... he was rocking on bike like a drunk... he was all over the road.... this was in stark contrast to the cool and smooth Basso...
