Jim, I urge you do drop the sexual innuendoes. It is beneath you and is
something that only the brain dead resort to. You have a Catholic liberal
arts education and we all expect better things of you. I myself only do it
as a last resort when I am dealing with a total asshole. I noticed you never
even did it with your arch enemy Ed Gin and so there is no reason for you to
do it with Mike Vandeman and myself since we are far superior types to Ed
Gin.

Perry Butler of Alexandria, Minnesota, another otherwise pretty good fellow
here on ARBR, would resort to this kind of an attack too when he was at a
loss for words. But Hells Bells, when you are at a loss for words, it is
better to just say nothing.

Anyone who is into sexual behavior without the express intent of creating
new life (babies) is nothing but human scum. God abhors all such and the
Devil is waiting for you in Hell!

Follow in the footsteps of Saint Edward the Great and you will know what it
is to be a self respecting human being. Any other path and all you will know
are matters of the groin along with the lower animals of creation. However,
the lower animals have the excuse that they do not have any higher powers of
reasoning, something that we humans can never excuse ourselves from. Hence,
we are many times worse than the beasts of the field. Yea, we are truly evil
and deserving of everlasting Hellfire!

It is my intention to come back after death as a Mighty Sequoia Tree. Yea,
and then I shall lord it over all these pitiful humans who fancy themselves
the lords of creation with all their pathetic sexual hang-ups. Ed Dolan, the
Mighty Sequoia Tree - now there is thought to wrap your mind around!

ED, you idiot...Jim did *not* write that. I did. Try reading for
comprehension.

FWIW, what I wrote was not "innuendo"...it was a simple, direct question
that you've chosen to ignore. I asked the question only to establish a
frame of reference. You often harp on issues of sexuality (apparently this
subject makes you uncomfortable), but many of us suspect you have little to
no experience in this arena.

Surely you must be aware of how bizarre that sentiment sounds to normal
people, ED. By your reckoning, 99% of humanity is "human scum". This alone
would be enough for most folks to characterize you as mentally ill.

Have you ever discussed your fears of sexuality and intimacy with a
qualified mental health professional?

No...we would know what it is to be lonely, unloved, and ridiculed.

Earth to ED - Believe it or not, it's possible to lead a life rich with
intellectual and physical challenges, creativity and joy, and also to
experience love, intimacy, and (gasp!) sex (both for pleasure, and for
procreative purposes).

Your fears have cut you off from much of the richness and beauty that's
around you. Worse yet, you justify giving in to your fears by calling them
"Greatness".

The phallic symbolism of your post-reincarnation desires is deliciously
ironic, ED....a "mighty sequoia tree" indeed (better late than ever, eh?).

Well, if Jim did not write that then everything I said to him now applies to

When you reference sex it is all about innuendo and nothing else. I only
reference holiness and take to task those who are into sex for any other
reason than creating new life. This has been the stance of the Holy Roman
Catholic Church (the one true church) from time immemorial and I am in damn
good company, if I do say so myself.

In my youth I actually plowed my way through the works of St. Thomas
Aquinas, one of the great Church Fathers. Yes it seems quaint to have done
that now, but I lived in another era from the present one. I am now an
atheist, but I love the teachings of the old Church Fathers.

God, I was so born out of my time! I want nothing else than to be a monk of
the Middle Ages, one of those who would take vows of eternal silence. Yea, I
only want to talk to God. I would like to only live in my monastic cell and
have mystic visions of God, the Saints and to taste Heaven! What is so wrong
about that?

GaryG is a libertine and can therefore never understand what it means to be
pure and holy like me. Let me repeat so it will perhaps finally sink in:

"Anyone who is into sexual behavior without the express intent of creating
new life (babies) is nothing but human scum." - Ed Dolan

Libertinism is now the accepted norm of the era we are living in, but it was
not always so. Anyone who is capable of rational thought knows that the only
purpose of sex is to create new life. Any other purpose is clearly a
perversion.

I had a sociology professor at the University of Minnesota who tried to tell
us that sex is also useful as a bonding mechanism between the parents - to
keep them together long enough to ensure the survival of their children.
God, I just about threw up when I heard that. I didn't believe it for a
moment. It is nothing but a rationalization for perversion. The one and only
purpose of sex is to create new life - period! Thus spake Zarathustra!

important (and indeed sacred) if and when you want to create new life.

No, pleasure is forbidden. What the hell do you think the Garden of Eden was
all about? But you are a libertine, so what would you know. If we can know
some pleasures of the mind and of the spirit in our lives, that is all we
are entitled to. The pleasures of the flesh are reserved for the lower
animals of creation. Are you perhaps one of them?

Such a symbolism never even occurred to me. If you had ever been around a

mired in libertinism and not capable of any Great Thoughts like Saint Edward

Ah, yes...those simpler times when 90% of the population was illiterate,
when the average lifespan was about 35 years, when slavery and torture were
commonplace, and when women (and men) could be burned in public for
"witchcraft" (meaning, they ****** off somebody with power).

You would get a lot of heartfelt support if you were to take a vow of
silence with respect to Usenet (I'd put you on my Christmas card list if you
did).

You could also join a monastery if you wanted to. I hear they're hiring, but
your puffed up claims of "greatness" might not go over so well in that
environment.

Yes, those were truly the good old days. I yearn for them every day of my
life. Why was it my misfortune to be born into the 20th century in America
when I should have been born in Medieval Germany where I could have had a
mighty struggle with that Protestant heretic Martin Luther. He is like you
in that he wanted to have his salvation and screw at the same time. He
simply did not know what it was to be a good Catholic like me (even though I
am now an atheist).

improvement over the likes of you.

No, it is not possible to join a monastery when you no longer believe. I am
an atheist and there is just no way I could hide this very significant fact
about myself. They would boot me out in very short order because they would
not know what I was praying about or meditating on.

scum", as you seem to imply?

You've stated this before...it amounts to a statement of self-loathing and
fear. I strongly recommend repeating it to a qualified mental health
provider...perhaps it's not too late for you to get some help.

Do you have any evidence that the overall rate of sexual expression, or the
forms thereof, or the purposes for which people engage in it, has changed
significantly from what it was in the past? Or, do you simply have a
fantasy of a "purer" time in the distant past when your fears would not have
made you look so bizarre?

Contempt for a perfectly normal biological and emotional function = Fear.

There was no Garden of Eden, ED. Just as there was no "original sin". And
pleasure is only "forbidden" by virtue of your screwed up mental state.

In a more sane age it is GaryG who would seeing a mental health expert. In
my chosen time he would be before the Spanish Inquisition to be burned at
the stake in order that his immortal soul be saved.

It is how it is regarded that matters, not whether it is engaged in or not.
You are a libertine because you do not regard it as immoral. You are worse
than the worst sinner because the worst sinner knows that he sins.

Try to learn to think in symbols. It matters not whether there was a Garden
of Eden or not. It does matter that we can know what it represents.

My point was that it's highly ironic for someone who claims to be "pure and
holy" to even use the terms "human scum". Just another clear indication of
how warped your thinking really is.

I've never said that sex is "all about fun and games"...it's way more
significant than that. It's also about closeness, bonding, intimacy, love,
making babies (at some points in life), and yes...fun and games too.

Once again, your statements reveal much about your fears, and your lack of
experience in this area.

So, if it wasn't real, then why should we continue to be ruled by Bronze Age
mythology? If there was no "Garden of Eden", and no "original sin", why do
we have to deny ourselves pleasure in this life (assuming consenting
adults)?

Again, the answer is clear...your disgust with intimacy and sexuality is
nothing more than your own deep-seated fears (and possibly some form of
mental illness).

BTW - this has been fun, but I have to sign off for the next couple of
weeks. I'm off to Colorado for a business trip, and a week of cycling in
the Rockies. Have a good time while I'm gone...and try to get laid if you
can (it might improve your outlook on life...you won't know until you try
it).
