For some reason, a few posts are not coming through my news server. I copied
and pasted from Google when it appeared that a few people were answering
questions to posts I couldn't see.
Quoted message said:With *the best* what do you mean? simple? I'm convince that simply eating
less and healty food is a good way to loose weight.
It is a good way to lose weight. High carb foods though are not healthy.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:The basic premise of why low carb works, that most agree on, is that
blood sugar levels are more stable. When eating high carb, blood sugar
tends
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:to go up higher and then come down lower.
Quoted message said:When you say *high carb* do you mean only pasta bread
poatotoes...cereals...or this means elimiate some snak food with high level
of sugar?
I don't eat any junk snack foods since starting low carb. I eat bread
occasionally. Cereals sometimes too. No pastas, and no potatoes.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:The resulting insulin spikes cause
metabolic problems and tends to deposit the extra energy as fat ( if the
sugar stores in the muscles and liver are full ).
Quoted message said:ok... but here the problem is the amount! of course ... if we eat too much
(in general) we get fat, or we have other healthy problem...but this is
for
Quoted message said:all of kind of food!
Yes.
Quoted message said:Seem to me that you people want to find a way to keep
to eat the same amount without get fat!
Not true. I eat about 2500 Kcal a day. Protein is necessary for repair
and building muscle. Most of our energy should come from fat. Carbs are like
high octane fuel. It has it's uses, but we eat far to much of it for our
needs.
Quoted message said:I mean Chinese are eating rice from how many centuries? And they don't have
all these problem of obesity! so If chinese eat rice from centuries...
Italian people eat pasta, in North Europa eat potatoes... why all these
population doesn't have all these problems? :-/
In the past they didn't have problems. Modern ways are catching up to
them too.
Quoted message said:For example people here have particulary problems with colesterol when they
often go to eat to McDonald!
Too much refined foods and not enough activity. My cholesterol is down by
the way, and so it is the same with most of the other people here that eat
low carb.

Quoted message said:Quoted message said:High carb foods are a more recent invention of our agricultural
practices
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:(less than 10,000 years).
Quoted message said::-//// recent invention? we never ate only meat! Eating meat were a rare
event! Going to haunt ... capture an animal wanted a lot time and a lot of
energy!!!! have you tryed to hunt something without a rifle?
No, we didn't just eat meat. All I'm trying to tell you is that the plants
we eat now are much more calorie dense and larger in size than what grows
naturally in the wild. It is not easy to hunt, especially if you are by
yourself, stranded, with no tools whatsoever. We lived in tribes though in
the past and we learned a few tricks about how to capture animals far sooner
than farming.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:Before we started farming, fruits and vegetables
were not as big and sweet or as abundant than what was found in nature.
We
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:still ate these foods before we farmed, but also had to work a lot harder
to
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:find and harvest these plants due to competition with other animals, and
also due to scarcity and smaller sizes.
Quoted message said:Today we work in others ways... maybe we make a sedentary job... and we
spend less energy...this means that we can eat less! instead we eat more
only because it's simpler find the food! but this not means that we have to
eat all of it without thinking which is the right amount or what is good
for
Quoted message said:us!
Yes. We should all have paid a little more attention to what we ate before
we became over weight.
Quoted message said:In my country (like every country in Italy) we have tipical recipes ...even
very fatty...because people needed a lot of energy during the Winter in the
past (I live in a mountain country with cold Winter!) but now of course we
eat this dishes rarely!!!
And this is the big difference in eating low carb. It is not a low fat
diet. It is not healthier to replace natural fats with unnatural high carb
fillers.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:Many of the native peoples in North America and other places, have a
higher rate of diabetes. I think it is because these cultures were not as
agricultural based as Europeans or other societies that have raised crops
for thousands of years.
Quoted message said:Like I said...when the habits don't change with the kind of feeding...
there
Quoted message said:are problem! but is not the kind of food that you eat but simply balance it
with your life style! In Italy the recipes change with the time! always
less
Quoted message said:grease! In old recipes there were the lard...clearly today we don't use it!
too fat! some time we don't use neither butter or oil!
We were taught in our schools when I was young that fat was bad too, but
that is not correct. As our diets changed over the years to more and more
carbs and less fats, we also got more obese. Coincidence or not?
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:Natural genetic selection would have accommodated
those that could tolerate a higher carbohydrate based diet. The cultures
that were more nomadic and tended to follow animal herds would have a
lower
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:tolerance for large amounts of carbohydrates.
Quoted message said:The natural selection doesn't work so quickly!
10,000 years wouldn't be enough time to grow a tail perhaps, but natural
selection could easily separate those that could tolerate higher carbs.
People that couldn't tolerate it would die off sooner from diabetes or
celiac. In those times, it would have been difficult to figure out why
someone was always sick and then died sooner without being able to
procreate, since these diseases take years to develop.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:Plant foods would have only
been available in season, and likely eaten more if meat wasn't available.
Grains by themselves are hard to digest for us. It was probably more of
an
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:accident that we found we could eat them by grinding and cooking them. I
think it is unnatural for us to eat as much high starch plant matter as
we
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:do today.
Quoted message said:I don't think so!!! really! in fact.... we are omnivorus! that means we
need vegetables fruit and meat!!
Yes I believe we are omnivorous. But our diets have swung to far to the
high carb foods by genetic manipulation through selective breeding, or
refinement of foods that strip most nutrients and fiber and leave only the
energy calories ( like sugar and flour ) . Large sweet fruits are rare in
nature though, and not as sweet. Large tuberous vegetables are also rare.
They tend to be smaller, and more fibrous in nature.
Quoted message said:do you say that grains are hard to digest?
Yes in their raw form. What we have done is made it too easy to extract
the calories through refinement. Our bodies are not suited to handle the
quick release of these calories. Fiber helps to slow down their release.
Grain hulls are even harder, or near impossible to digest. Ever chewed on
grains? There quite tough. Without crushing and cooking, it is hard to get
the calories and nutrients out of them.
Quoted message said:we don't digest the cellulose, the fibers!!! but we need fibre for our
digestion!! (even if you don't digets a thing this doesn't mean that is not
useful!) but the meat is more hardest to digest that vegetables! carnivore
have infact a longer intestine! longer then ours! In the end...but not less
important the meat is only for RICH people! that means that few people can
eat meat every day.... even because it have a highter energetic cost then
vegetables in nature. Think the numbers in a population of carnivors these
are never so high like the number of men!
Yes, which is why we are so successful as omnivores. Maybe a little too
successful, which is why we are also getting fat.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:When I walk around the forests close to where I live, sometimes I
imagine
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:what it would have been like to live long ago. Even with a book of edible
forest plants, I find difficulty locating high carbohydrate foods.
Quoted message said:All the seeds! carbs are the resorse of energy for seeds...it's a little
riserver, only the necessary for allow the seed to became a little plant.
for example you could open a pinecone and you'd have your ration of carb!
;-)
Quoted message said:the seeds are definitly more frequent then animals! don't you think?
It's all about seasonal availability and competition with other animals
for food. Nuts are great for low carb diets. We no longer have natural
limiting factors. We can eat as much as we want, whenever we want.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:If I were
stranded there, I would definitely be sharpening a stick and looking for
something to hunt. If I found a few berries along the way, that would be
a
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:bonus.
So do you think that is more healty the meat then carb for us? in a
hamburger do you find more healthy the cheese and meat than bread? O__O
Yes of course. I know you have a problem believing that.
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:I was never much of a junk food eater in the past. I had believed what
I
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:was told that a 50 to 60% carbohydrate based diet was the most healthy
way
Quoted message said:Quoted message said:to eat. If I tried to lose weight, I would cut back on meat and fats and
increase the carbs. I had heard of low carb diets, but did not believe in
there validity. My thinking has changed over the last 2 years because of
what I have been reading, and from personal experience.
Quoted message said:I've never said that this kind of diet doesn't work... I only think is not
healty. not equilibrate!
High carb diets are not a balanced diet. You need protein and fat. You can
live without carbs. Unfortunately, our governments think it is the best way,
and really push high carb as healthy. They think high carb reduces
cholesterol. The trouble is, many people do not eat enough natural foods.
Most get there carb calories from refined carb foods. There cholesterol is
going up.
I know it is difficult to grasp this concept. I had trouble believing it
at first. Again I say carbs are not evil, but what we have done to them in
the past few decades is. We have extracted and concentrated the carbs to the
point that it has become detrimental to our health. This concentration is
taxing on our metabolic systems. As we age and get fatter, these systems are
taxed even further and finally break down altogether.
Quoted message said:well I was 178 and in a couple of month I'm became 156 (I'm 67,86
inches)...when I decided to eat in a healthy way! that for me doesn't mean
eliminate carb from my diet... rather the contrary, I have eliminate the
execess of cheese or meat.
Good for you on losing weight. Any type of diet will work if calories are
reduced. It is more difficult to control hunger while eating high carb, and
the weight is likely to come back. Many people here have not eliminated
carbs all together. They have just tried to eat enough that it doesn't spike
up blood sugar. Also, there seems to be a maximum amount of carbs that they
can eat without gaining weight.
Quoted message said:I have to be honest it's been hard write this post! :-P
No problem. Your doing just fine.
