Did You Ride Today?

26 small hills and a lot of wind! Today was a spectacular day for a ride!

Much like yesterday, the wind was going a stiff 10 to 17 MPH and the sun was shining brightly. I rolled out about 12:30 PM and had the wind at my back. My legs were somewhat shot from yesterday, but base conditioning took over and 5 miles into the 42-mile ride they were turning over well even if max power was not going to be on the menu today.

I tried tacking the wind as much as possible, but like yesterday it was swirling and changing direction a lot. One minute I was in a cross wind and the next the gusts slammed into me and slowed me down a lot. The only strategy was to stay low and keep a smaller gear rolling fast and hard. Again, it was a lot of Watts just to bust through the worst of it.

I did slow things a bit here and there to allow the legs to recover and enjoy the sight of all those combines and tractors hitting the fields for harvest. All said, a beautiful little ride!

Went out and played in the woods for 2 hours after church today. Went and explored several new areas and had to throw the bike over the shoulder a few times searching out trails. Crashed several times acting like I was still in my 20's and pushing a little beyond my limits. No harm no foul and just a great day to be out breathing it that cool crisp air.

I spent about 45 mins. on the weight machine yesterday, I have previously been using hand weights, and I did drive myself to work today. I see the Ortho Friday but I know I got a ways to go.

Thumbs up for JH! Nice job!

I'm sure you would rather be outside and on your brand new irresponsible-dog-owner-provided Campagnolo Super Record EPS equipped Pinarello Dogma F8, but that day will be coming soon!

Yeah, you got some more recovery ahead, but the worst is over and your ortho will soon realize you are a superman candidate.

A short, but fast 23-mile sprint to beat sunset. It was a warm 78 degrees and the sun was out! The wind was running a painful 13 to 21 MPH though and I was once again working hard and this time the effort was rewarded...my speed was at least somewhere above 'Fred' level!

The ride was flattish with only 550' of vertical and the roads were pretty much mine to play on. Fun!

Took the TT bike out on my regular 15 mile out and back route. The legs felt good today and I choose to go into the wind for the first half when I felt my strongest. The temp was 64 degrees and had an 10-12 wind. Was happy with the effort seeing I am at the end of a chest cold and the breathing was almost back to normal. Finished off at 22 mph even with a nice sweat for my effort.

That's FAST, Zipp! Way to roll!

23 miles this afternoon under a dark, cloudy sky with the wind going 14 MPH steady. With only 625' of climbing I held a fairly easy 17.2 MPH with only the wind making it feel like work.

A fun ride! I got to race two Amish sulkies and saw three young Amish out on their push/scooter bikes. Saw a guy that used to work with me out on his Allis-Chalmers D19 pulling what had to be the oldest, steel wheeled tow-behind brush hog I ever saw! Saw another guy that also used to work with me (actually, I think all three of us were there at the same time) driving home in his restored old Chevy 1/2-ton...looked great.

The last couple of miles I kept thinking I was getting hit with a few drops of rain. Yup...back to the car and the windshield confirmed the light drizzle was picking up.

Anyone else notice how rapidly sunset is upon us?

With U not having the time to ride, JH on injured-reserve and the rest of the gang missing in action...not many of us left, Zipp!

Where have all our fellow cyclist gone !

Only had a very short window to ride after work today, because I was meeting up with my grand buddies for dinner. Wouldn't you know the weather was just incredible today. 81 degrees with a 8-10 mph wind. I would have loved to have a couple hours available to ride, but grand buddies come first. I got in a 13.63 mile recovery ride and really didn't let loose until 3 miles left, when I put the head down and kept my avg. seed at 25 mph. Legs are feeling a lot better with only minor sciatic flare-ups 3-4 times a day.

22 miles with the air at a warm 73 degrees. The wind was a low 3 to 6 MPH and the sun was out! I went out to hammer a few little hills and climbed just under 1200'.

I'm going to have to check out Mr. Beanz blog to see if he's still riding the bike path with Gina!

Hey guys, not too many strong or interesting rides lately, just enough time to keep my fitness in place. 50 miles a week on the bike and 7-8 miles running the last few weeks.

Did a 9.3 mile run at an 8:15 pace on Wednesday in nice 75 degree weather. Took the morning off from work and planned for a 50 miler, but bike maintenance....I was ****** and decided to try and push myself another way. I usually keep it at 5 miles and my legs still feel beat. A good kind of sore though.

They called for rain, but this morning was perfect riding weather, 65 degrees and the good kind of wind to start the ride. My legs felt good as well as my lungs. I kept it in the big ring and did a lot of slow cadence(70), standing grinding. Finished with 18.3 miles/18.6 mph/890 ft. Weather permitting, i'll try and get a long ride in Saturday or Sunday. They're calling for rain on both days, hoping they're wrong.

After two days of cold and heavy rain it dawned...colder and rainy this morning. I took off around 2 PM and it was a chilly 45 degrees and the wind was back with a vengeance. It was a steady 13 to 18 MPH wind with gusts from 24 to 31 MPH.

The sun came out for a few minutes and I had time for a 22-mile cruise with just over 1000' of climbing. The roads were deserted and it turned out to be a nice ride despite the wind and chilly air.

42 miles in more tough wind. It was a warmer 65 degrees and sunny today, but the 13 to 15 steady wind with gust to 23-24 MPH was just a royal pain to push through. Again, lots of Watts expended to go nowhere fast!

Right at 2000' of climbing it was just a rolling ride. A couple decent climbs, but mainly just constant ups and downs.

Headwind, tailwind, sidewind...it was swirling and gusting so much it all took some effort to go any point on the compass.

I felt good and the bike ran silently and efficiently through the falling leaves. Woolly bears were crossing the roads and the Walnut trees were shedding their fruit in the gusts.

Windy.... My 165-170 pound self was being trashed around some. Was passed by a few trucks thats throw some wind right at me. Not a lot of distance, but I felt pretty good out there otherwise.

23 miles/17.6 mph/71 cadence/1000 ft.

Just a tad windy also !

Yeah, Zipp, it's days like the last few...and this afternoon...that a constant stream of cars passing from behind is a blessing! I'm glad you were out of breath working into the wind! You're not alone! My heart rate, respiration rate and Watts have been insane the last few rides when working into it.

I laughed when you cursed the wind and downshifted...twice.

"The legs are done!" Yeah, that 42 miles from yesterday was in my legs this afternoon, for sure. Stiff and sore from the effort.

Only 17 miles this afternoon and the the wind was a steady 14 to 16 MPH with gusts just a little higher. Just 400' of climbing and a fast, fun ride under an overcast sky and dark clouds that looked a little like...no...don't say it!

My heart rate, respiration rate and Watts have been insane the last few rides when working into it.

My heart rate spent most of the entire ride in the max zone, got to love the extra workout windy fall days give you. The kicker was when I checked out the weather report right after the ride it said the wind was at 2 mph, I only wish.

Almost time for the trainer because it took me most of the evening to get my asthma under control. My asthma is triggered by the cold air, I've tried different face shields and masks to reduce the cold air intake but don't like how they restrict my breathing.

The good part about riding indoors is I might have a indoor riding partner this year to help change up my regular routine.

I use the Windfinder.com website and it's decently accurate in both wind speed and direction. Every now and again though...yeah...that little 5 MPH 'breeze' turns out to be off the Beaufort scale.

I got in a chilly 23 miles this afternoon in alternating sun and overcast conditions. The wind was running 9 to 13 MPH. It was 52 degrees when I threw a leg over and 45 degrees when I stepped off.

I'm still in a light base layer with a short sleeve jersey over that, shorts with light tights and a pair of light full finger gloves. I hate putting all that **** on just to go ride for an hour or an hour and a half...and it's only going to get worse!

Another ride over mostly deserted roads except for some ginormous overside wide load of frac'ing equipment with a lead vehicle. The semi hauling the load has a monster motor in it and he was running way to fast for the narrow county chip & seal twisty-turney road...damned near ran me off the road. Lugnut rule...he wins.

Just 12 miles this afternoon in chilly 43 degree air. The sky was overcast and a light mist was in the air when I started. I only rode at a 16 MPH average tempo and relaxed for most of the cruise. Only 400' of climbing so an easy effort all around.

OK, JH, what's your fitness plan for this week? Still doing the weight circuit on your home gym? I hope you're feeling better every day!

8.3 miles....Tried to get in a few before work at 6:30 am in the dark.... My current headlight isn't the greatest and didn't illuminate the road as much as i'd like. That didn't matter too much since I know the route like the back of my hand. It was windy and cold, 28 degrees or so. I was going 30+ mph on a slight descend(1-2% grade) and a deer darted in front of me, it looked scared out of its mind. I was 1 second away from a crash, probably 2-3 feet away from the deer. One of these days, i'm going to plow right into one of these. I don't plan on doing pre sunrise rides very often.

8.3 miles/17 mph/71 cadence.

I'd hate to see how i'll do on a metric century due to lack of riding the last month, but i'd better plan a metric for the weekend.
