Did You Ride Today?

36 miles at a hair over 18 MPH avg. that included doing a lot of circles in the roads waiting on one of the riders. Only 1500' of climbing, so a fairly flat ride with The Boy Wonder and one of his friends.

The Boy and I drilled it. Or I should say The Boy drilled it and I hung on for dear life. Every time I dared pull along side him he would pick it up some more.

It was 63 degrees and the wind was fairly light at 7 to 10 MPH so we kept the tempo up in all directions of the compass. Only one badass climb. I damned near blew, but recovered over the top. On one steady upgrade I had to shift up five times to stay on The Boy's wheel. I surprised him a couple of times...he would look around to see if I was still there or dropped and despite some killer efforts on his parts and my tongue dragging on the front tire I was determined to hang.

The friend was riding well, but the ton of climbing they did on Sunday was still in his legs. He was powerful on the flats and relaxed it up the climbs. He's a really fast rider when recovered, but I could tell Sunday's big day of climbing was still with him.

182 BPM was the fastest heart rate...probably time trialing to catch up The Boy or climbing on his wheel! What a fun ride! There's nothing like going fast with friends.

No Kestrel today as planned, the back had other idea's. So when the back wants a fight, I go to Doctor Zipp.

I can get destroyed any method of my choosing during the weekend, but

Man! your bike looks so cool!

You have Valero gas stations, too!

Bad backs suck. It's been 23 years for me. Good days...bad days...with almost no logic what causes the bad ones. I can work my butt off and feel great, but just one wrong twist, turn or lift and I can spend a week in pain.

29 miles, 1500' of climbing, 17.0 MPH avg. on a beautiful 70 degree day with sunshine and light winds at 8 MPH steady.

For some reason, this course seems much more climbing intense than the 1486' Garmin says it is. There's one tough hill on it and a bunch of hills that make my heart pound, my lungs wheeze and my legs lose power. A bunch.

Anyway, it's a good workout ride. I dodged the two speeding deputies coming at me at 60+ MPH with lights and sirens as I pulled over onto the berm and stopped. I didn't get quite stopped as the ambulance that was following them by a couple of minutes came screaming around a hill and blind turn. Must have been an accident back the way I had travelled...

I hit 40+ MPH off at least three of the hills, but I didn't crack 50 MPH anywhere on the descents. The Wilier rolled smooth and silent through the wooded County roads and all I had to listen to was my breathing.

No gels, didn't have time to touch my bottles. Just keep the intensity up and get over the hill that was in front of me! I loved every minute of this ride despite being a little pressed for time.

-The most i've ever hit downhill so far is 44mph...I'm no daredevil, don't get aero enough, and am not that heavy. I was glad to not be a bomber yesterday. I was going down a hill in the 35+ range and feathering the brakes and pass a lady walking her dog in the middle of the road.

-That is the sign of a hard effort, not having the time to drink. On the few rides that I chased the local A riders, I didn't have time to drink a sip.

Seems like we're losing posters, I'll try to have a few more interesting rides than my boring 18-20 milers this weekend, lol.

Seems like we're losing posters,

This forum has always been a stagnant backwater of the internet...as are many cycling forums. There's a couple other forums that are run by Nazi's that have more traffic. Go figure. They ban more members in a week than the number that post here.

Pretty much all the major cycling forums are dead except for the rabid discussions of who among the pro's is doping (the correct answer is: pretty much all of them) and all that serves is for 'ban bait' and sycophant training so I just laugh at that stuff.

Real world riding and training takes effort and dedication. I'm afraid there's very little of those qualities on the internet forums anymore. Add in the attraction of STRAVA and the clone sites and 'social networking' websites and dedicated forums are left to be trafficked by bots, spammers, hackers and 4chan goofs.

I've been on several firearm forums as a member, a mod and an admin since 1998 and they too are losing traffic, so it's not just cycling by any means that has struggling forums.

Amazon and ****...now there's some web traffic!

Hmmm...just read Mr. Beanz's web blog. He almost got in a fist fight with some guy that was drafting him and passing him.

The perp.

Haven't ridden since Tuesday since I am at a convention in Nashville. Maybe tomorrow depending on the weather.

Wow ! It's the first time this month that I've been on my Kestrel (road bike). Between a full week of rain, and being sick for 6 days made for a slow month so far. It hasn't all been bad because I have had the mountain bike out quite a bit, along with the TT bike, and even the SS bike for some fun. So today after work I dusted off the Kestrel and did my little roller coaster ride of 22.51 miles. Little up, little down, little up, little down, repeat over and over. The wind wasn't to bad at 7-9 and the temp was 74 degrees. The leg's get loose a lot quicker as the temps start to rise, and I rolled it out at 19.57mph.

I wimped out a little today. Got home by 6:30 on one of the best days temperature wise this week. No riding though, I want my legs fresh for Saturday. I've worked these past few months to build up my speed so that I can focus on pace lining only during group rides. 18-19 mph use to feel speed demon fast to me, but not anymore. The B+ group usually averages 18-20mph for 35-50 miles. I've talked to the ride leader a few times and he's said to ride with his group to build up my skills. Have a lot of work to do on that front, but have to pass this next obstacle.

Uawadall you shouldn't have any problem with the speed of the B+ group. Not sure what your endurance is but if your doing some decent miles on your own then you should be able to hang for the distance. Might mean your digging deep into the tank but that's how you learn to push thru to the next level. Give it a shot and have fun.

I wimped out too...5 hours on a brush hog. Think of a lawn mower with 70 horsepower and blades that will take down 2" saplings. Yeah. It sucked not riding, but stuff is green and growing that needs to be not growing so I run over it and shorten it up.

Yes and double the charges.

An engineer dies and goes to hell. Dissatisfied with the level of discomfort, he starts designing and building improvements. After a while, hell has air conditioning, flush
toilets and escalators. The engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day God called and asked Satan, "So how's it going down there?"

Satan said, "Hey things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators,
and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."

God is horrified. "What, you've got an engineer? That's a mistake. He should never have gone down there! You know all engineers go to Heaven. Send him up here now! "

Satan said, "No way...I like having an engineer on the staff, I'm keeping him!"

God said, "Send him back up here or I'll sue!"

"Yeah, right," Satan laughed, "and where are you going to get a lawyer?"

Finished the morning ride 35.7 miles/19.1 mph pace/1400 ft of climbing. It felt pretty tough during, but not after the ride. I think I finally understand why group rides feel tougher than normal rides for the same speed(for me).

-My riding style has become very aggressive with many out of the saddle sprints and climbs. I cant be this aggressive in pace lines. I try to stay mostly seated and of course have to go at the group pace. My stop and go style doesn't seem to translate well. The A group lent itself more to this, but I need a little more growth for them.

-I'm still a downhill wimp. I go to the back of the group during downhills and make up for it with a hard sprint or a standed hill climb.

Besides those 2 things, some of these guys are great cyclist and are definitely not showing their entire hand, I can usually tell when someone has more in the tank. One of the guys I rode with today is a beast. He has done a weatherby type ride before, 217 miles. As much as I enjoy riding with others, I seem to prefer smaller groups, like 3-6 people. So much to worry about in the middle of a pack of 15+. The intervals have definitely been paying off, i'm much stronger seated than in the past. Although, I felt uncomfortable seating so much. I know have to ride longer rides to get my endurance back up. I'll see if I can do a 50+ miler before the rain gets here.
