Did You Ride Today?

Ah thanks. I have hit 177 that I've seen at my highest recently. Seems to be going up little by little now that I'm monitoring it.

But honestly, I won't work on my sprint. Never really needed to. I've had guys tell me that I should but even without a sprint, they struggle to keep up when I'm keeping a good pace.

If I were racing, I would do on a trainer like I did years ago working on intervals.

Heck, I tried a few times on the trail and could hear my front wheel and bottom bracket in distress. That was in 2005 I decided any sprints would be seated. No stand and crank stuff.

And my seated sprint without side to side motions, were very controlled and hitting 32 mph on a verified flat section told me I don't really need to go faster since I'm not racing. :D

You're welcome.

I think adding sprint training to your base training may have an effect on VO2max. If it gets your max HR higher while maintaining the same rest HR, your calculated VO2max will be higher.

In this way, it may have positive effect on long distance endurance through higher VO2max. I also found sprint training as time efficient way to maintain cycling fitness.

I was wondering about the same thing. Mt. Diablo was it?

Was it the mountain with many creepy things happening like UFOs and other paranormal stuff? You must have the nerves of steel if you can ride that place while still dark with no one around. It would have been very scary.

Solo 20.8 Thursday night. Testing a new light and new go pro battery. Do love my ankle bands though.

Wow, that is a lot of lights. Not overkill if you're riding over here to see those nut busters!

In this country, many riders don't care for lights at night. One time I was driving my cousin's car on a rural highway, no street lights, no houses. The road is pitch black all around for a few miles and going maybe 40 mph. And then suddenly I noticed something in front of the car less than 30 ft away, much slower, closing fast. A rider with no lights, no reflectors, dark colored bike with no reflectors, and wearing loose dark colored clothes. It was too close for me to make big evasive maneuvers so I was forced to make a pass only a few inches away from the rider. We actually heard his clothes brush against the side of the car so there's light contact involved. I didn't hear him fall and crash so I didn't bothered to check. I would have heard it since we're the only car in a few miles.

Some riders have a death wish. I never saw the guy until he was less than 30 feet away, he was practically invisible at night in the gear he's in and no lights, no reflectors.

I did not get to ride this weekend on the account of rain and work commitments so I did some strength workouts and cardio on the stationary bike instead. Takes a lot less time than actually going out and doing all the preparations.

Yes ,I did ride today. I completed my 10 km ride in local area today & i got a riding solution & experience from the last ride. I am thinking of share this experience my website And i will also share the Gridlines on how will you chose the best bikes for beginners.

40 miles. First ride on a midweek daytime ride in about 2 years. 40 miles on a trail and a neighborhood with a steep grade. A grade on the trail 10.7 percent so I was able to take a selfie. The 14.7 neighborhood grade, no selfie.

Nice looking trail. We have nice neighborhoods with those steep grades you can do loops but they're all gated :(

The ones we have access to, right beside a rich neighborhood only have shorter climbs and traffic can be relatively heavy on weekends and totally annoying on weekdays.

25 miles today, cut short by dark clouds!

Doing multiple loops on the elite school road. Those super expensive schools rich diplomats send their kids to.

I simply make a U-turn when reaching each end of the road. This road is utterly mysterious and defies physics! Like how on Earth would I have headwinds on one direction and then headwinds again after the U-turn and heading down the same spot on the same road but in the opposite direction only half a minute later???

It wasn't just a one time fluke. It persisted throughout the multiple laps! Apparently the wind is also making multiple laps of the road but in the opposite direction I'm going!

Despite the anomaly, I almost made PR and it was my best performance under these headwinds. All these strength training paid off really well. Although my muscles did not get noticeably bigger (I don't think they did), I found it much easier to push down the pedals even in big gears. The strength training have also altered my pedaling technique that seems more efficient.

I'm even wearing cargo shorts. Been loving the custom shaped saddle so much I can't let it go. I was tempted to put back the TT saddle but I figured it's going to be a huge mistake. For some weird reason I feel better when wearing those cotton cargo shorts. Must be the looks that makes me feel better subconsciously.

No riding for me this weekend. Took Gina and her Mom to Laughlin Nevada for a little casino fun. They enjoy it but I don't understand throwing away money in machines. I'd rather buy bike parts and I don't gamble at all. I'm just here for the food. :D

Arrived Friday night Midnight. I guess it's Saturday morning. But either way, make a ood time of it.

Looks like fun! I don't gamble either except with decisions when riding in dense traffic! But food definitely, I mean not gamble with food, unless I'm buying some really cheap foods from street vendors.

42 miles today, 2,400 ft climbing.

Had a very weird experience immediately after the ride.

When I took off my sweaty clothes, I recognized a strong odor of "ferric chloride" in my sweaty clothes. Note these are the same clothes I've worn so many times in cycling already. I recognize the compound because I still remember the smell when we used it to etch electronic PCB boards for a high school project over 20 years ago.

True enough when I soaked my clothes in water which is the very first thing I do to them to eliminate sweat, they colored the water in the same color as the clothes and this would be the first time it ever happened! Ferric chloride becomes very acidic when mixed water (or sweat in my case). At least this proves that there's ferric chloride in my sweat or something quite acidic enough to bleach my clothes.

I'm worried because the compound damages clothing/color and will etch aluminum and since I have aluminum bike...

One research came up where ferric chloride can be extracted from hydrochloric acid with ketones (pure chemistry work without involvement of biology). Since the acid in our gut is hydrochloric acid and I since I always ride fasted, I'll have abundance of ketones in my blood. WTF indeed because I really don't want to eat while riding and I'm doing it mainly for health reasons.

The problem is that safe cycling is not a priority for traffic enforcement policy. Otherwise, there would be a lot fewer bicycle riders killed and injured in accidents where the bicycle suddenly became visible or was otherwise operating in violation of traffic laws.

I don't know if you are in the USA, but here bicycle riders (as opposed to cyclists) of all ages ride by police officers:
- with no reflectors
- with no lights
- on the wrong side of the street
- zigzagging all over the road
- in the middle of the road
- with one or no hands, operating their mobile devices
- with one or no hands, looking down at the screen, operating their mobile devices
- riding several abreast
- any combination of the above

Most of the burden is placed on motorists to "share the road", drive carefully, etc. The only people I have heard complain about being stopped for improper operation are local ne'er-do-wells, e.g., longtime residents with a history of vagrancy or public drunkenness or petty crimes. They are far outnumbered by kids and seemingly otherwise responsible adults.

I am happy that your incident did not result in injury or damage to your car. As a cyclist who rode as a cyclist since my teens (I am 63) I am incensed when I see people playing in traffic on bicycles! Your guy took it to the next level with attempted suicide by stupidity.

I agree with you . I rode with a group of 25. Enjoyed a few of the cyclists but overall they were very dangerous. I decided to go back to solo figuring sooner or later, one if not more of them would end up involving me in an accident. Good thing I left, couple weeks later, crashed over the next couple months sending about 3 of them to the hospital. I saw it coming in their cycling habits.

I live and ride in the Philippines and it's exactly the same situation here.

Not only it makes the life of motorists harder, it also make cycling more dangerous for everyone. I checked the car for scratches the next morning, fortunately, there was none and if it did, it's not my car anyway!

Rode today, same route, another 42 miles and 2,400' of climbing.

I went faster today than the other day despite doing leg strength exercises (deadlift and lunges with dumbbells, 40 lbs each). I'm aware of no heavy lifting before a long ride but after yesterday's strength session, I felt great and better recovered and felt like I can do a long ride today. I never did this before. If I'm going to ride the next day, I'll be using much lighter weights like 16 lb dumbbells each or avoid strength training altogether.

I'm not recommending to do this because you can hurt your joints badly doing a long ride the day after strength training. It happened to me before with far less weights. Maybe now, my joints are a lot stronger but we'll never know for sure.
