  1. 1-1/2 years ago I went on Atkins for the first time. Within 4 months I lost
30 pounds with hardly any effort, not even any exercise. I have maintained
that loss doing low carb or low fat.

Now I want to lose more weight. I restarted Atkins following it to a T just
like I did 1-1/2 years ago. I cannot lose a single ounce. I've checked and
I'm not overdoing it on fatty food, I'm eating lots of allowed veggies and
lean meats, fish, etc. Drinking the suggested amount of water. I even added
some exercise though only walking daily. Still can't lose an ounce.

Prior to this I did a low fat and watching calories diet, with the walking,
on that I couldn't lose anything either. I'm so frustrated and at a loss to
    what I should try! help!

  2. Try eating less and exercising more.

I admit I probably could up the exercise, but I really am not eating that
much. Maybe for an Atkins plan I should be eating more. I'm doing the same
thing I did the first time the diet was successful for me.

Exactly how many calories are you taking in per day?

If you're close to goal or at your personal set point, most people find
the weight simply comes off more slowly. You may be doing the diet exactly
right and you just need to be patient and let it happen.

On the other hand, if you've been back on track for 3 months, nowhere near
your goal weight and you're sure you're doing the plan properly (starting
w/ simply not eating too much), then maybe you should post some typical
days' menus for people to review.

You can't lose weight by eating more. Continue to eat less than you're
eating until you start losing weight. saying that you're not eating that

I have 80-100 pounds to lose. I've been back on Atkins 3 weeks with nothing
to show for it. In a typical day right now I'll eat:

B - 1 hard boiled egg, and either 4 sausage links or an Atkins muffin

L - Lean ham (not lunchmeat) or tuna wrapped in lettuce with 1/2 cup left
over veggie from night before. Or a salad with hard boiled egg and low carb
    dressing

D - lean meat (chicken breast, fish, hamburger patty) with one cup of some
    sort of veggie

Snack - 2 ounce slice cheese or slice of summer sausage

I don't think I'm eating much at all, not hungry though. Am I eating too
lean for Atkins? The first time I did it I was eating a lot more fat like
    bacon and sausage

see my other message for how much I eat on a typical day.... and from what
I learned on Atkins the first time I was on it, the more I upped my fat from
sausage and bacon, the more I lost... this is something I'm not doing this
    time around

Eat less protein in favor of more fat and take in less calories while
    increasing your exercise.

This contridicts what I've heard regarding Atkins which was: If your body
feels it is not getting enough food you won't lose, your body will hang onto
it. If you give it more food, on atkins particularly more protein/fats it
should make your body think it is not in survival mode

hmm, well, okay I appreciate your input but:

how can you expect me to eat ONLY 2 ounces of cheese as my dinner?

and they are Atkins muffins, obviously low(er) carb and I dont eat them

"eat bacon instead of ham and less of it"... I only have 4-6 oz of lean ham

There's a red flag. The simplist open secret in all of
weight loss - The ones who quit fail and the ones who
never quit succeed. The actual real follow the directions
Atkins is a well designed plan where it makes perfect
ssense to stay on it forever.

    Quoted message said:

You need to be aware that repeated Induction often fails
to trigger loss in folks. Very common. The solution is
to follow the directions for the entire plan.

    Quoted message said:

Please consider following the directions for the entire
Atkins process. All 4 phases on schedule using the carb
ladder as a guide for what order to add stuff. I know it
is not ovbvious, but step back and think about it. Is
there any chance Dr A failed to try the obvious during
the 4 decades he worked on designing and improving his
system? Of course not! The actual process in the
directions is not obvious, so you're not trying it. Go
ahead and do it this time.

There is a schedule of carb quotas. Try it week to week.
Not under, not over. At. As close as your count can get
    you. 20, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and so on until you spend a
week out of ketosis. That's the carb half of what it
says to do in the directions. Try it. Step out in faith.

What you're doing now is a fad diet by the looks. You are
extending Induction and you have already fallen off. Try
the 4 phases. Lot's stall at 20. Insufficient carbs DO
trigger stalls. The more you have to lose the less likely
the stall, but you don't have the same amount to lose that
you did when you started. You're no longer in that range
where extending Induction is certain to work. Up those
carbs like the directions say, on the schedule that the
    directions say.

OWL is named Ongoing Weight Loss for a reason. Induction
does not have "weight loss" in its name for a reason. You
are a living example of that.

I've tried Atkins, but it wasn't for me. I've been on the GI Diet for
the past week, and I've lost 8 pounds without trying (for a total of
12 since my heaviest this summer). I have been exercising as well. I'm
noticing a difference in clothes and feel great.

Some have suggested that the GI Diet is very similar to the Atkins
maintenance. I'm eating whole wheat break (no more than 1 slice/day),
berries, almonds, fish, whole wheat penne pasta, no sugar added pasta
sauce (which I load up with fresh veggies), brown rice, and more.
Tonight we're having beef fahitas made with whole wheat tortillas,
lean strips of steak, and lots of veggies. For dessert we're having a
small bowl of blueberries and strawberries, with some Splenda and a
    splash of skim milk.

I'm avoiding refined and processed foods, with the exception of a
weekly "cheat meal", which I eat anything I like, but in small
portions. For example, next week's cheat meal will be at my nephew's
birthday party. We'll load up on the veggies (no dips), but I will
have a burger and a hotdog (no cake). I'm even careful on the cheats!

This plan is very easy to follow, compared to anything I've tried, and
I've not always had great will power. The GI plan is more of a
lifestyle change than a diet to me.

I know this is a LC group, but it's also to help support people in
losing weight. I'm not knocking LC, as a friend lost a lot of weight
on Atkins. This is just a better fit.

Crystal, I recommend the "Living the GI Diet" book by Rick Gallop.
It's a quick read with useful information, recipes and lists
red/yellow/green light foods. Along with exercise, portion control and
the occasional treat, this is working very well. Best of luck on
whatever plan you decide to follow.

Kevin, can you provide an online link so I can read about the diet and what
to eat without me having to run out and buy the book?

  19. noticeably absent is exercise. I have been on maintenance for over a year
now and I have lost 5 pounds this summer just from exercise. And, I don't
mean "walking every once in a while"....

my problem with exercise is that I have very bad knee pain. While I can
walk with no problem, I have exercise tapes ranging from step to aerobics,
my knees cant take it and jumping or bending at all. I feel limited to how
    I can burn calories
