B - 1 hard boiled egg, and either 4 sausage links or an Atkins muffin
L - Lean ham (not lunchmeat) or tuna wrapped in lettuce with 1/2 cup left
over veggie from night before. Or a salad with hard boiled egg and low carb
dressing
D - lean meat (chicken breast, fish, hamburger patty) with one cup of some
sort of veggie
Snack - 2 ounce slice cheese or slice of summer sausage
what protein would you suggest I cut out? what type of fat should I add?
what has so much calories that I've been eating?
I've tried Atkins, but it wasn't for me. I've been on the GI Diet for
the past week, and I've lost 8 pounds without trying (for a total of
12 since my heaviest this summer). I have been exercising as well. I'm
noticing a difference in clothes and feel great.
Some have suggested that the GI Diet is very similar to the Atkins
maintenance. I'm eating whole wheat break (no more than 1 slice/day),
berries, almonds, fish, whole wheat penne pasta, no sugar added pasta
sauce (which I load up with fresh veggies), brown rice, and more.
Tonight we're having beef fahitas made with whole wheat tortillas,
lean strips of steak, and lots of veggies. For dessert we're having a
small bowl of blueberries and strawberries, with some Splenda and a
splash of skim milk.
I'm avoiding refined and processed foods, with the exception of a
weekly "cheat meal", which I eat anything I like, but in small
portions. For example, next week's cheat meal will be at my nephew's
birthday party. We'll load up on the veggies (no dips), but I will
have a burger and a hotdog (no cake). I'm even careful on the cheats!
This plan is very easy to follow, compared to anything I've tried, and
I've not always had great will power. The GI plan is more of a
lifestyle change than a diet to me.
I know this is a LC group, but it's also to help support people in
losing weight. I'm not knocking LC, as a friend lost a lot of weight
on Atkins. This is just a better fit.
Crystal, I recommend the "Living the GI Diet" book by Rick Gallop.
It's a quick read with useful information, recipes and lists
red/yellow/green light foods. Along with exercise, portion control and
the occasional treat, this is working very well. Best of luck on
whatever plan you decide to follow.
