Yet another doping threat (Viennese Blood)

Wouldn't it be funny if Klodi goes down for Freiburg, Contadope goes down for OP, and Leipheimer goes down for Vienna? That would take the wind out of Bruyneel's sails.

Leipheimer was on Rabobank and Gerolsteiner at the same time riders were moving to transfusions. It seems possible he could be involved.

Wow...Boogerd's wife sounded just disappointed that her husband had been linked to a doping affair...but there was no denial.
Of course she knows perfectly ... in case of a Mancebo's case!

Someone please give Rasmussen a few Twinkies and some sunblock.
Are you sure that the face is not a result of his blushing from all the lies he's telling? :p

While ARD is more carefull... Austrian media report that the scandal is much bigger as they thought. Apart from cyclists and the nordic ski athletes, swimmers and at least two footbal (soccer) players are involved:

In spite of that, you mentioned that the ARD board was not very happy with their reporting. Do you think this new report by the Austrian media will have any impact on ARD?

Not yet but magazines like Speigel and newspapers like Süddeutsche will continue to cover the story and ARD will have to follow them at some point.

I was watching biathlon on eurosport during last week(end) from Rupfhold, the crowds were massive!!!

Germans dominated the race, both men and women and the relays...

I'm Finnish so I know the heat we got after the 2001 WC, it was horrible to have our best athletes test positive for dope...

But what about the Norwegians, they are winning year after year, biathlon, skiing and skijumping...

Cycling is the only sport with a dope problem, what a joke!!!
I don't think it's very productive making doping suggestions only based on winning. If you have any information or rumours on missed tests, suspicious blood vaules, former sanctions, doubious trainers, suspicious "out of the blue" form peaks etc. please feel free to submit them.

Cycling is not the only sport with a dope problem, but according to the WADA statistics, cycling has a far higher percentage of advers analytical findigs (2006: 4,17 %) than e.g. skiing (1,95 %) or biathlon (1,92 %). In fact, cycling has by far the highest percentage of AAF's of all major olympic sports.

If the rumours are true: Why did the Rabobank riders choose Vienna? Strange...

Humanplasma headquarters are in Vienna but they also had facilities in Eastern-Germany (where the biathlon and cross-skiers have their training facilities... but that's probebly just a coincedence;) ). Maybe they had some in the Netherlands too?

I am not sure it is fair to compare cycling in 2006 (when $h!t was already hitting the fan) with other sports that have stayed below the radar (in terms of doping scandals). What is the fraction of busted riders in cycling before OP or Festina? Was the fraction high even at that time?

I'd agree with that view in general, but when you see patterns of teams - ie not an individual rider, but many riders from the same team - dominating, like Astana did in the DL last year, or as in the final ITT of last year's Tour when 7 of the top 8 riders were Disco or Caisse riders, then I think it's legitimate to speculate that something's not right.

The WADA statistics for AAF in cycling are:

2005 - 3,78 %
2004 - 4,60 %
2003 - 3,93 %

I have not seen any statistics pre 2003. Pre-Festina, you would not find any WADA statistics, given that WADA was created because of the Festina...

The statistics can be found at this site (Laboratory statistics)

Late in the Tour, yes... Or if three riders from the same team TTT away from the peloton in the FW with 70 km to go in the 1990s...

But I would say that a team dominating the DL may just be a team that is too good too early. (Or it may just be the only top team in which the riders are not anemic from a trip to Vienna or a similar place, so they need to use some others blood later on;) )

OP didn't 'bust' all that many riders. There was Ullrich, Sevilla, Basso and the LS team. which were excluded from the TdF (were all of them banned in the end?). I wonder if that even made a significant impact on the doping statistics that year. Now, if all riders which were actually involved had been banned, it would have been a completely different thing. But that did not happen for various reasons and instead the whole OP is just dragging on and on until all involved are retired and interest is gone. It's a 'gift that keeps giving', or rather, a pile of ****, that keeps rotting.

Yes on ZDF tonight and all other stations, newspapers etc. but ARD tonight ...zero!

The German Ski Federation (DSV) announced that they will sue the ARD reporters that brought yesterdays story. My sources say ARD is very angry at reporter Hajo Seppelt.
