Tom, you [censored] idiot, the whole point of this [censored] thread is that

But E-caps aren't placebos, they are an easy, convenient way to get
your sodium and other electrolytes to replace what you lose in
sweat, and help stave off cramping and dehydration. They won't do
much for a 40 minute crit, but can make you have a much better day
in a long, hot road race.

So is a bag of chips and a bottle of water. No amount of
    supplementation can replace real food.

You carry chips in your jersey pocket (and also try to eat them)
during a race? Seriously? Ewww. Well, more power to ya.

I replace my electrolytes mostly after the ride. On-bike electrolyte input
amounts to energy drink (used to the Cytomax or Revenge, but I haven't seen
them where I live now) and a banana and/or another piece of fruit.

As for me, I don't need the extra grease sitting like a lump in my stomach.

I use small amounts of meat floss, otherwise known as jerky, on some
rides. It's not as bad as I would have predicted.

Of course I wouldn't expect idiots to know what e-caps were but then not
everyone is trdina. Psst - perfectly legal vitamin suppliment and lots of
people swear by them. I think that they actually do have some effect but it
is difficult to pin it down.

How the hell do you know what someone is scarfing down?
Not a bad idea. Do it in public, no hesitation, offer some around and you're
probably covered until you get tested.
Hide it in plain sight works a lot more than we'd think.

Or psychological warfare. All your competitors will think you're on some
new and wonderful drug and won't even bother to attempt to chase you down.

That assumes a high IQ level of your competitors.
Most are too dumb to psych out.

What about doping for training ride victories? That's never been discussed.

Try to tell that to these people:

Also, I couldn't find a link to the actual product, but have instead added
an interesting link to a blog with a testimonial about Snyder's of Hanover
Coney Island Hot Dog flavored potato chips. Sounds pretty revolting to me.

Eat a good dinner night before. Eat a banana and a bowl of this
killer museli from Trader Joe's, with figs 'n rasins 'n other good
stuff for breakfast. Take Clif bar along if I should need it. Mostly
I need water, but now and then need some extra energy before long
climbs, etc. Sometimes keep a Gu in reserve.

Yep, I do this too sometimes- on winter training rides when I'm sick of my
accelerade, want to suffer a little, and don't care about my performance.
But if you're doing long road races without taking in any carbs, your
    performance is suffering.

Well, with that stuff I'm good for at least one 800' and one 2,500'
climb, along with hammering away in whatever headwinds/crosswinds I
encounter in a ride up to 70 miles.

Not quite bad enough to drive 1200 miles round trip to pick some up at my
nearest TJ's, but they're both damn good stuff.

Cripes, where do you live? There is a trader joes website which lists
the stores. I know they're as far east as Michigan.

Hey Bill, what "drugs" come as pills? Next we'll have trdina telling
us that it was EPO and HGH in those pills.

I would say ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, caffeine (legal, and the most likely explanation) and also, possibly, cortico-steroids (in high dose they have an effect - not many docs know this but ask the Euro's or someone with specialist knowledge of sporting drugs).

  10. gym gravity said:

lemme get this straight, e-caps are performance enhancing, but rHGH
isn't. The implementation by the UCI and the IOC of a test for
recombinant HGH in endurance sports is mere political posturing, and
will only catch wannabe losers that have been duped into shelling out
thousands of dollars for a placebo effect.

You'd wanna be an idiot to take the stuff, but I think you're running your mouth off a bit to say HGH doesn't have positive effects for endurance athletes (in terms of performance not health). I haven't seen a clinical trial on the stuff, but there are a number of theoretical reasons why it would be a benefit. I've seen a rider take it, win an A grade club race and go top 20 in an open (equiv to pro/1/2 and pro race respectively), having been B grade (cat 2/3) at best. Then he stopped using, and was back to B grade.

I've seen the website and it's frustrating, damn frustrating they don't have
a mail order division I tell you. Hell, they can keep the 2 Buck for all I
care, it's the other private label TJ stuff I mainly want.

If you look at the locations, you'll notice there is a big hole in the
central and southern parts of the US. Even if you lived in Denver, your
closest store would still be Santa Fe, NM.

Man. That's sad. TJ's just took over a big failing grocery in downtown
Santa Cruz, so I figure it'll become the TJ's equivilent of a Meijer. I
just hope they carry some of the stuff the mini TJ's near me dropped.

If you want some food, ask, I could probably ship you a couple jars
    wrapped in old socks :-)

This thread is about P/1/2 racing, what do you think the "P" stands
    for ?

Not to mention it is a sanctioned sport with rules, people work hard
for their results and there is cash for grabs and good performances in
non-UCI races can lead to bigger things.
