Well then my original point stands: why wasn't it "worrisome" when it
appeared that HIGH gas prices were going to affect the election? Or is it
only "dumb" of the voters now?

Tomlinson's mind is made up, despite overwhelming evidence that the media is
massively biased (and thus, too, is "reality" as presented to him). Just
look at the SCHOOLS that are churning out young journalists; ain't no big
surprise...

Well, hell, the NYT is sure unbiased! Read this...and note the references
to Saddam's ACTIVE (in 2002) nuke programs:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/03/world/middleeast/03documents.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper&oref=slogin

Maybe it WAS vital to take him out, after all, just like Kerry and Hillary
said! LOL

For those who don't wish to register if it won't display as is, a few
snippets:
"Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the
1990s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure
Iraq had abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf
war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein's scientists were on the
verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away."

"Some of the first posted documents dealt with Iraq's program to make germ
weapons, followed by a wave of papers on chemical arms.

At the United Nations in New York, the chemical papers raised alarms at the
Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission, which had been in charge
of searching Iraq for all unconventional arms, save the nuclear ones."

"On Sept. 20, the site posted a much larger document, "Summary of technical
achievements of Iraq's former nuclear program." It runs to 51 pages, 18
focusing on the development of Iraq's bomb design. Topics included physical
theory, the atomic core and high-explosive experiments. By early October,
diplomats and officials said, United Nations arms inspectors in New York and
their counterparts in Vienna were alarmed and discussing what to do."

No wonder Bill Clinton made regime change in Iraq the official policy of the
U.S.

They won't want to hear this, it doesn't fit the agenda, so therefore it
must be nothing but rightwing lies and deceit out forth by Bush just to get
control of the world supply for his cronies in Texas. It's unfortunate
that history has not been taught in public schools for the last 30 years or
so, instead of being replaced with political correctness.

You're joking, right? Or you haven't talked to any soldiers.

Or at least, not the ones who have come back and aren't career folks.

The career folks are gung ho over ANY conflict. Combat service is the
ticket to promotion.

The non-career folks paint a pretty dim picture of just how hated the
U.S. is over there. Not even the major media outlets are honest about
how hated the U.S. is.

Bush screwed up big by trying to set up his anti-terrorist battleground
in The Sandbox. It would have been better to do it in Afghanistan.
They still would have come, and fewer would have been created from
middle-calss folks who just hated to have invaders occupy their
country.

Like I already said before, I love how you right wingnuts talk out both
sides of your mouth at the same time. You claim NYT has a "liberal
bias" while ignoring Judith Miller's uncritical "reporting" of Iraq's
WMD (with Chalabi as her source), which was largely responsible for
turning public sentiment FOR the war in the run-up. Judy Miller was
acting as the mouthpiece for the Bush administration before the Iraq
War.
http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/media/features/9226/

The NYT has since apologized for not being more critical of Judy
Miller's reporting and administration claims (re the aluminum tubes).

NYT "Liberal Bias?" Ha! Hardly.

Which is why we invaded?

And which is why we invaded North Korea a few years ago, too?

No, wait - somehow, the invasion plans for North Korea got misplaced.
Despite the unhidden nuclear program. Despite the apparently
successful nuclear tests, not just designs on paper. Despite the
despot's terrible opression of his people. Despite his obscenely
lavish lifestyle, while his people starve. Despite his constant threat
to neighboring states. Despite his defiance of the world community.

In fact, Kim Jong il meets every criterion Bush used for the invasion
of Iraq except two:

1) He doesn't look Arab enough that we can pretend he's responsible
for 9/11.

2) He doesn't have any oil.

Hmmm. I wonder which of those two differences was the really important
one?

I agree but the fact remains that Kerry was probably correct.

Army service or an army career may be an excellent way to break out of
a lower class trap but you are not going to see a lot of Ive League
grads in the ranks. You may well be seeing lots of people without a
GED let alone a high school diploma.

Excluding the officer corps, I doubt that you get a large number of
university graduates or people from the upper two quintiles of the
socio-economic ladder.

The electorate isn't dumb, well, 50% is below average I guess. But
most folks don't really have time to dig into issues, and quick sound
bites about lowering taxes are more appealing than trying to explain
why the deficit is bad. It's far easier to proclaim that people hate
us because of our freedom than to examine the consequences of US
intervention around the world; intervention which is usually about
maximizing corporate profits for the already wealthy.

And, of course, there are people who do hate us for religious reasons.

I think Bush reduced the taxes much more for higher income groups (i.e.,
me) than for lower income gropus. Tax revenues are merely a seasonal
thing, and with the billions spent in Iraq, we're going to need them all.
The stock market? Who knows what causes that. Certainly not Bush.

500 warheads with sarin and mustard gas?

The dissenters in Kelo, Susette, et al. v. New London, CT, et al. were
O'Connor, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which Rehnquist, C. J., and
Scalia and Thomas, JJ. Remind me which of those Bush put on the court?

He organized and put across rapprochement with China.

By all reports he did not use his various political
offices for monetary gain.

Maybe the rank and file do not want to see the upper
two quintiles every day. Those that do get themselves
promoted to NCO. Do not put yourself on the wrong side
the sergeants.
