Maybe if I talked about wages, health care benefits and so but where does Holidays come in? Is'nt
the holidays paided as part of ones wages in the us as they are here?

That being said if we do talk about money then surely tax ratea are high in europe and very high
indeed in Denmark, but wages are also pretty high especially when factoring in the amount of
time you work.

Minimum wages are also pretty high compared to the US, it's around $14 here in Denmark afaik, and
one doesn't pay so high percentages when having low income - maybe that is why so few people in
europe* is really poor.

A project coordinator for a big phone company. I too have a coupe of kids & a wife. I just put my new (now last year's model) Cateye on my bike & had to explain it to my wife.

and as such no access to a TV. I do remember Fyffe Robertson though from all sorts of commentary

For example, if you work 10% less hours, but end up pocketing 20% less pay after taxes and other
deductions... you're coming out behind.

Yes they are - but nothing is free, and every extra week of holidays and vacation takes down the
workforce by about 2%. That has an effect on the overall economy and on productivity. Beyond that,
it gets complicated... ;-)

Of course, income means nothing without knowing about the cost of living. For example, China has low
incomes compared to most developed countries, but you can maintain a really nice lifestyle there on
very little money.

And though most people outside the US (and actually, very many inside the US) don't realize it, the
bottom half of the income earners in the US pay only about 4% of the overall tax revenue anyway. The
"evil upper 1%" that are so maligned by politicians pay 36% of the overall tax revenue (which is, of
course, why any tax cut helps them out so much).

I had an interesting glimpse some years back when my #2 daughter (USA) and my nephew (Germany) were
both working as agents in travel agencies.

The daughter was working for an output in Philadelphia called "Rosenbluth Travel" and the nephew was
working for some outfit in near Limburg.

The daughter got paid zero, zip, nada, bupkiss for overtime and worked it quite frequently. But the
real zinger was that overtime would always come at the end of an already-long work day (about 5:30
pm....and run until 8 or 9 at nite). During this time not only did they not get paid...they couldn't
even eat dinner...they just went hungry... I'm not making this up....

The nephew, otoh, got paid for every minute he worked, sendom, if ever, worked overtime, and started
out with something like 4 weeks vacation per year.

I'm not sure that daughter ever got vacation...and if she did, it couldn't have been more
than a week.

IMHO that's the difference unions make....

Sure does - the email adress that is - it's as you suggest the code for god mode. Thoose were the
days when computer games were breaking new ground in gameplay and not just improving graphics. I
still remember my first game of Doom in a Dorm room with a 486, 17" monitor and 2*150 watt loud
speakers the size of freezers. Must have been 1990/91 oh and the guy that had the hardware was
loaded with cash, the rest of us had 286's if we were lucky.

Actually I would have prefered the code for full ammo all weapons since I never used God mode. I had
that (idkfa) as an adress once but stupidly forgot the password to the account with the ISP:-)

Sure but that still doesn't change the amoun of free time you get, regardless if you make less or
more money. In my view no amount of money can really replace free time, it's all about finding the
best balance for yourself.

Agreed. I've had to make decisions about living where the lifestyle was great but the job market was
awful, and vice versa. Everyone has to find the proper balance (as you said).
