Did You Ride Today?

Yeah, the race to the flag that was ordered called off...intelligent decision. I like that a bunch of new background characters from other teams are at least given some speaking roles on this series. The crew in the Kanzaki cycles support van is interesting.

I may have found a character for Lim to identify with...what with his amazing 2500 miles in 24 days string on long rides. The Stamina Simpleton! No offense intended Lim! The Stamina Simpleton is the nickname given to a racer that came back from a two-year injury period to become perhaps the strongest rider on the Sohoku team. He is a beast and so are you! I hope your Summer is filled with many long rides.

67 degrees and sunshine with the wind at 12 to 14 MPH. I just had time for a 21-mile ride with about 1200' of vertical on the course. Some steep, some rolling. All fun!

Another wind advisory today. Not even close to 2 weeks back. There was a pretty good headwind though.

44 miles with Gina and a few buddies here and there. 16.1 average speed.

I was sick pretty much all week. Monday-Wed in bed, shivering and sweating like a dog. Chest congestion. Not sure what happened as I rarely get sick, this time I did, really! Felt better Thurs and Friday so I figured I would ride today hoping to lose my insides along the trail somewhere. Meh, didn't cough much, just a scratchy chest and throat.

I stayed at the front for the first 25 miles or so setting a steady pace for Gina. After that I let my buddy Jose pull for about 7 miles. Then I took the front again on the final 12 holding the pace steady for Gina.

Had a few buds jump in here and there.

I was not feeling all that great and my pic seems to reflect that. I look like the Riding Dead! :D

Yes I rode yesterday and plan on today also. Last Sunday was the last day I was on the road before yesterday. Our dog broke his leg Sunday evening and this week has been a series of ordeals including sleepless nights and surgery. Being a large dog complicates the issue.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Jh. I hope he heals up quickly.

I'm glad you're feeling better Mr. B.!

It was 67 degrees this afternoon with periods of dark gray clouds early in the ride, a mix of sun and overcast sky during the middle portion of the ride and sunshine for the last third of the ride.

The wind was odd today. I started off North into a fairly stiff cross headwind. The first 26 miles was steady work. Then, it picked up and I had a pretty nice tail wind or cross tail wind for the last 30 miles or so of the ride...in sunshine!

62 miles with 2600' of climbing with an average cadence of 81. Keep the gearing light and was spinning pretty good even with that 12-18 MPH wind and gusts up to 26 MPH.

My first Metric Century of the year and rode with a friend, this was his first. He's the one with the older 7 speed bike, I underestimated the bike. He went on a 50 and now a 63 mile ride with me and its working just fine. Kept the pace easy and comfortable and rode the synapse. He was falling behind a little, but seems to be getting better every ride. He's going to be a very good rider soon. I think i'll go for my first century in the next month or two.

63.1 miles/3100 ft. 15.5 mph.

I'm just the opposite I've always been more of a masher, and have to work on spinning more. I like to stand on climbs and on some of the climbs on this ride you had no choose even for guys running 2 36 or 38 as some were running. This event had some climbs with minor sections in the high 20's and low 30's for grades. For the most part they were in the mid to upper teens to low 20's.
I work in the 4th hilliest city in the US and have over 30 hills that are upper tens and mid 20's that I play on once a week once the weather gets nice. The only way to get better on hills is practice, practice, practice. Find a tough hill and do repeats practicing out of saddle climbing, you'll get better at it over time.

Cool thanks. I noticed you standing a lot in your videos. I saw the video with that tough climb. Yeah, I know I need to work on some hills and have started to do so. I just have to work it in between my daughter's track practices.

Have you participated in that famous hill challenge in Boston (forget the name of it)?

It was 69 degrees and sunny today with the wind a soft 5 to 6 MPH.

I lit out for a little climbing and then some cruise control miles. 27 miles with a tad over 1300' of vertical. I worked hard on the climbs and sprinted off the crests...relaxed in an aero tuck and repeated that for about 15-17 miles.

A nice ride!

Heh, we both did metrics yesterday. Yours had a little more climbing...good job, U!

When you ride with someone else, the miles fly by. It felt like I only rode for 2 hours or so. Weather was just right, I bet we will see some century post on the board soon.

The Major Taylor George Street challenge is in Worcester, Mass and is a real thigh burner. I did it on a bet with my old riding partner quite a few years ago. The bet was that he could beat me using his road bike, but I had to use my Time Trial bike. I have it marked on my calendar for this year, but waiting to see how I feel before I register.

Man I've been going crazy with all the rain we have had lately. My last ride was last Friday in the woods because of shitty weather. So what happens today LOOK THERE IS A YELLOW GLOBE IN THE SKY. Sun WOO-HOO yes I'm excited and rush home from work eager to see how the legs are going to respond on my ride. 73 degrees with a 6-8 mph wind and 22 miles with the middle of the ride containing all the climbs. Was hitting right out of the box and by the time the climbs came I was feeling good. Didn't attack the climbs but stayed seated and set a hard tempo on them.

I was a warm 82 degrees today and sunny! The wind was 12 to 16 MPH with gusts to 22 MPH so a little tough work when going into it.

I got 32 miles in with the first 15 a decent cross tail wind or full tail wind. It was lightly rolling terrain with just over 1139' of climbing. I tried to keep the tempo reasonable going out because after the far turn for home that wind was going to work me over.

I got low and dropped a couple gears and rounded the bend for the return legs. Immediately my average speed dropped one MPH. Full into the wind on the drops all the way back to the truck. Banging gears and sprinting the hills got me almost the same split for the windward trip back. I felt pretty good about that.

It got up to a nice, warm 86 degrees this afternoon! The sun was out and the wind at 16 to 20 MPH with gusts to 31 MPH.

I had some field work to do and only had time for a quick little 14-mile blast over flat terrain with only 420' of climbing. Still, a nice warm ride and it felt great!

The scent of hay drying in the heat was good to smell again!

The temps they are a rising ! The temp was 87 when I get out after work and went for a quick 19.68 mile ride. The wind wasn't to bad at 8-10, with minor gusts throughout the ride. I came to a side road and had to almost stop for a bunch of geese crossing the road. As I get near two of them start hissing at me and coming toward me so it was off to the races. The gave up way to quick because I was hoping for some fun, oh well maybe another time. Looks like tomorrow is hitting the 90's, so the TT bike will get the call. Stay safe everyone, and keep the wheels rolling.

It got up to 82 degrees in Ohio this afternoon. It was a sunny day with a later afternoon downpour. And then the sun came back out! The wind was a tough 14 to 16 MPH constant with gusts over 26 MPH.

Perfect! Let's ride!

I did a bunch of chores and only had time for a quick 16-mile dial-in ride for the new Wilier...pics to come. I hit the setup almost perfectly! I had to add two turns to the front derailleur's adjusting barrel and other than that it was spot on. I'll recheck all fasteners for torque tomorrow before the next ride.

Only 500' of climbing, but the late afternoon sun was spectacular and even the hard wind felt good!
