Did You Ride Today?

Well I remember it by that name though I think it has changed. Pretty good little climb at the top of Euclid Ave. I rode up San Antone, across 24th then up Euclid to Mtn Ave. 800+ feet in 4 miles or so, good little gain. After nearly 90 miles this weekend I was worried about doing it but now it seems a bit more tame than going straight up SA with that 17% at the top. The chapel hit 12%, maybe 13 at one point but didn't seem as rough as I remember it. Jut a bit longer than SA.

Anyway, about 13.5 miles with near 1,200 ft gain. Nice little workout. The thing that makes it hard is being straight out of our doorstep, no warm up, just climb ha ha!

Made a video about it ha ha!

That's a long climb Mr. B! We got 800'+ climbs in Ohio, but they are very rare. We have lots of really steep stuff, buf an 8-mile long steady climb? Not around here!

It was 79 degrees today and sunny. Once again the wind was 14 to 16 MPH...like a broken record...

I got 39 miles in with 1250' of climbing. All of the climbing was easy stuff. Nice and gentle. I rode the tail wind for the first 15 miles and then started the hard work. I dropped gears as I turned full into the head wind and gradually increased the work load all the way back on the course. The last 3 miles were tail wind again and I got to kick it hard for the barn.

Heck this is the one straight out of my door. 12 miles with about 6500 ft in 12 miles.

We've got plenty of climbing out here!

Couple of timed events I did. 30 mile climbs in there somewhere, plus a little more. :D

I do a ride of 102-106 miles in the Summer that has around 6000'-6500' of climbing. That's not the most I could cram in on a local century ride, but about the most I generally do.

If I would go out and do 8 hours worth of the local hills and nothing but the local hills I can get around 9000' packed in. Slow and steep climbs. Not a lot of fun, but a Hellova workout.

IIRC your video was showing you on 12 and 13 percent gradients? That's steep enough no matter how you slice it. I heard you wheezing away as you climbed and could almost feel the effort you were putting in. And yeah, I sound like a broken down steam locomotive sucking air as I go over them to!

Ha ha ha! Yeah I do short rides during the week of 12-15 miles at the most but with 1200-1600 ft gain. I do 2 or 3 loops up the steeper roads just to get in some effort. There are 2 roads I generally ride up that lead to the mountain roads. If you see any riders around, they generally go around these 2 roads that I use for my mid week rides ha ha! Not heavily traveled by cyclist unless they are heading down. I have a hard time getting my friends to ride up with me. Check out the image below, one of the streets has a 16%. So yeah, I'm wheezing on these roads ha ha! :p

One thing I take pride in is my climbing. I know big boys aren't supposed to climb but I try. I did the events mentioned earlier. One was 100 miles with 10,000 ft accumulated gain (highest point Onyx Summit at 8400 ft). The ride is called Ride Around the Bear. It's a timed event and they tell you not to sign up unless you are a serious climber. 400 rider limit and I finished at 123 out of 400. Official time for 110 miles/10,000 ft was 7:40 and ride time 7:10. Not bad for a big boy of 230 pounds.

I also did it on a standard crank 53/39 - 12/25. :D

It's a bit easier the long 6% climbs than 12%+ grades though. There are a few here and there on the ride but nothing over 1/4 mile or so.

I will say that for a big guy, endurance is the key. The skinny guys can sprint away on the early slopes but steady riders start passing them back one by one about 30 miles up the climb. Most the riders who do this ride are competitive riders and I will tell you, they do not like being passed by a big guy ha ha! :D

At the top after 10,000 ft of climbing, now it's all DH for nearly 40 miles.

16% is serious steep! I do a couple 1/8-mile walls that run around 12% and top out at 16%-17% in a 39 x 25 and it's a bear to pound it out over the top of those. Hitting 16% after climbing 3-1/2 miles... in a 25...painful!

It hit 75 degrees today, but the weatherman said rain at 5 PM.

I jumped on the bike at 3:51 PM and left the parking lot like John Force cutting down the tree! Big gears, big Watts, stupid fast stuff. The sky was darkening rapidly as the wind was bringing the rain in at 16 to 17 MPH with constant gusts of up to 36 MPH. Again, the wind this early Spring period has been nasty.

18 miles later I slid sideways towards the car to a halt as the first drops of rain hit the ground.

Only 440 Feet of climbing on a short, fast loop that was done mainly head down, back flat and only concentrating on keeping the pedals turning as fast as I could.

On the drive home the clouds really opened up! It was a delugr followed by sunshine and another downpour about an hour later when I was out in the garage slapping a new Chorus chain on the Wilier.

A slow start to the week, a lot of rain and a lot of work... 15 miles on zwift followed by a 2 mile run. Not much, but enough to let me play on the weekend. Hoping to get my first metric of the year in Saturday or Sunday.

Are you caught up on Yowamushi Pedal CAMPYBOB?

Damn..you must be psychic! I was just thinking of you, U. I just finished watching Episode 16...the start of the 2nd Inter-High.

The plot is much more evolved this season and the sub-plots are actually interesting.

The bike manufacturer's names are just cracking me up...Spesh 'C-Works'! LOL! Cannondate!

BTW, I don't know what's going on, but I had a lot of trouble d-loading 14, 15 and 16. I found a way to fake out the Yowa website finally, but it wasn't loading correctly and would not take me to the d-load screen. Probably need to clear cookies and reboot.

The bike brand thing is funny, they get away with copyright and we know EXACTLY what brands they are going with. Sohuku is looking like the underdog again somehow. I'm not liking the new guy Issi at all. He's too much like Naruko except without the confidence in his team or his self. Maybe they should have added the stamina simpleton instead. Hakone looks like a team of aces again.

Looking forward to the rivalry between Midosuji/Naruko and Teshima/tall redhead guy. I think the easiest way to watch it is Crunchyroll.

70 degrees and partly cloudy today. The afternoon was actually 100% cloud cover and it looked pretty depressing. Still, the wind FINALLY let up a little! Only 5 to 6 MPH!

27 miles of lightly rolling terrain. Only 825' of climbing some despite having some dead legs I tried to keep the tempo up. Rain is moving in tonight and the weekend looks to be pretty wet. Maybe no riding, but even if I get out it looks like it will only be for a short, local loop.

Yeah, the stamina simpleton is actually an appealing character.

The restroom meeting with Hakone's sprinter was hysterical.

The 'masseuse' thing was just weird. "Idiotsuji"...LMAO!

Sohoku is definitely being played as the underdog again.

I watched the first two seasons on Crunchyroll, but hate not being able to FFW through the adverts, openings, etc. Can you d-load episodes from Crunchyroll?

I'm downloading 1080P (except one episode was only available in 760 for some reason) from the yowamushipedal3.com website. Then watching when I get time. The 1080P resolution really shows off the computer generated animation art much better than what I was able to watch at in real time on Crunchyroll.

55 degrees and a cold rain most of the day. It came down hard at times and was a foggy mist at other times.

I hit the trainer for 50 minutes. Kept it mostly at L3 and spent 20 minutes in L4. Boring.

44.6 miles today, 15.8 average with brutal winds. At one point I was pushing pretty good and doing 9 mph. At 13 mph, I was blowing by other riders ha ha! As you can see, not many riders out today. :D

Things were somewhat calm at the coast.

36.7 miles/17.4 mph/2020 ft. The weather was perfect, but I just couldn't seem to really enjoy the ride. Every once in a while, a ride is boring. Maybe like 2% of the time, I feel like this outdoors. Probably should have road in a group. Starting to get use to the TMR02's handling, but will have to play with the cleat position and maybe keep the shoes a little looser. When I get close to 40 miles, my feet start killing me. Haven't had this problem once with my mountain bike shoes. I'll be heading out in a little while to see what todays ride will bring.

Midosuji's new guy is weird, but I have a feeling he'll be fast and make them a little less reliant on their ace. Mido had very little help last season, aside from that third year. You cant download from crunchyroll. I've been getting them from tokyotosho

Holy ****, Mr. B.! How do you manage to ride with a woody?!?! Nice...er...scenery you guys have out there!

It got up to 81 degrees in Ohio this afternoon and the wind was a brutal 17 to 28 MPH with gusts up to 44 MPH! Yeah, it hurt heading into THAT!

I got out for 52 mile...2 miles TOO MANY. I started out in sunshine and that blasting wind, but after the turn for home the 25% chance of rain was looking more like 110%.

I lucked out and managed to ride around the first two threats as the sky to the South and West of me turned dark blue and I could see the rain falling off in the distance maybe 5 miles away. The lightning display was spectacular, but only reinforced the work load as I pounded every gear I had into the wind.

I was trying to have a relaxed ride back into that gale force wind, but NOOOOO! I had to race the rain and my max. heart rate peaked at 187 and was constantly in zones L5 and L6. It was race pace all the way home. The threat of getting drowned or struck by lightning is one Hell of a motivator to get a killer training ride in!

The third threat of rain neared and I didn't get so lucky. One 150' climb and three miles to go and I started to feel light rain. Over the crest I caught a huge tailwind and set sail for home just as the sky opened up hard. I got drowned in those last three miles back to the car. Soaked to the hide doing 25 to 30 MPH trying to out run the leading edge of that storm cell. I failed!

Oh well! It was a fun ride and I climbed just under 2400'. Once again, the fierce wind provide the workout.

Was a crazy weekend that started a day early for me. Friday I was off to New Hope, PA to ride the Fleche Buffoon ride Saturday. So Friday afternoon I arrive and get my hotel room and set off on the bike to scout out a couple of the tough climbs at the beginning of the ride. Temp was high 80's and I rolled out 24 miles. Saturday the temp was in the low 90's and I met up with several You Tuber's that I planned to do the event with. The event had some killer climbs and was a blast, but one of the riders in the group wasn't feeling well (over-heated) and instead of 75 miles we did 70. Left PA early Sunday morning got home and before I unpacked hopped on the bike for a 20 mile spin.

The weather cooled down to the mid 50's and it was a little windy out there. Some of my favorite roads are starting to get really rough, I rode the Synapse with shimano r10's. Glad that I did, some of the roads have potholes 4-6" deep and I hit some gravel as well. This setup takes the roughest roads like a champ. 35.6 miles/2450 ft/15.2 mph...A little slower and not as much miles as I wanted, but my legs feel like they've got a good workout this weekend.

Nice Sunday ride with Gina and a few friends here and there. 66 miles at 16.1 average. Much nicer. Gina thought it was windy with the breeze but nothing like Saturday's 50 MPH Santa Ana winds. She missed out on all the fun! :D

How does Joaquin handle 50 MPH wind with his 50MM wheels? He's got a pretty good aero position going when he's on the drops. Dig the Suzi Q tunes!

72 degrees today and the wind machine was at it again. The gusts were 33 to 40 MPH and it was going a steady 20 to 23 MPH.

The sun was out after the morning and early afternoon rains. The afternoon deluge was good for 1-1/2" in about 15 minutes!

The roads mostly dried off after that one and I went out for 13 miles just to shake the legs out from yesterday with only 450' of climbing. Sadly, I saw zero bikinis and zero bolt-on breasts.
