Bummer, isn't it. I had horrible delays on mine. Ended up
taking three times as long as they initially said. You have
my sympathy.

What makes you think that the delivery of these would be any
faster? All these rolling bedsteads have long lead times,
don't they?

Anyway, the enjoyment of anticipation will just last that
much longer. Much better than instant gratification.

Roos has been given May 24th plus ~ a week for delivery,
though they might finish it a week before. But I think
you're suffering from a high initial order rate on the
Grasshopper.

For the Dolphin, the lead times on Optimas are sometimes
even worse (or at least were back when Darth Ben dealt with
them). Also, as we found out in Amsterdam the Dolphin is
actually designed for smaller riders. Roos (5'10"😉 wouldn't
fit on the one she's planned to try, so unless you're a
shorty it may have been an uncomfortable love affair...
Haven't tried the Hurricane, but we both tried a Mistral and
were both seriously underwhelmed. It just wasn't exceptional
in any way (aside from the Magura rim brakes, which had me
ordering my own set). Exceptional in a positive way, that
is: over block paved roads the vibration into the seat
(which is part of the frame on a Challenge bike) was so bad
Roos got blurred vision.

It depends. If you want the standard spec you can wander in
to a shop with a fair stock in the NL, pay your money and
ride away. Somewhere like Kinetics and, I think, Bikefix you
try out the demo bikes and then order your own, there isn't
really sale stock typically available on the 'bents. And if
you want something built to order with a special set of
options you'll have to wait, same as with any bike where
you're deviating from showroom standard spec.

The Grasshopper is currently an awkward case as it's brand
new and was much anticipated. I think it's mad, but
apparently they were selling well on pre-orders before many
people had even seen one in the flesh, never mind ridden
one, so there's currently a backlog of building them for all
the new orders.

I think the only way to get one fast is to go to one of the
bigger Dutch shops and buy one of the models they have in
stock. Though they never have the exact options you want!

It may have been the case that the one in the shop had a
short beam. And I'm only 5'9" and a half (how do you notate
that... 5'9"5''' ? ) though with relatively long legs. (and
another example of someone for whom the BMI is not a good
indicator of fatlevels :-)

They'll cost more, but they do have the reputation of being
*the* cat's pyjamas of bicycle brakes, irrespective of
order speed.

Among English speakers who use the SI, one point seven six
metres is normal language. Isn't it nice when pedantry and
normal usage coincide?
