Missing Posts - again

Based on my experience, it's been my ISP's fault a few times (Frontier
Communications). They tried to blame all sorts of stuff on my end, like
ZoneAlarm (my firewall), but that was nonsense. The problem usually vanishes
within 12-24 hours and nobody can explain why.

It's likely a problem with your news server or your news reader. I can
see your message yesterday just fine <[email hidden]>.
The weird part is I think I'm using the same news server as you (that's
why I mentioned your news reader as a possiblilty).

Check your filters. I miss a lot of original posts due to a heavy hand
when filtering so I often don't see the original post. OTOH, I don't

Check your mail reader settings as well. I can choose not to view
already read messages or those killfiled or those where I choose to
ignore the thread. Make sure you don't have one of these options checked.

Funny, I don't have many filters in place. In fact, ones I have filtered
still show up (our dear Dr. Chung). I have checked my other settings and
seem to be clean. This whole thing is occurring more and more often.

shame. I figure if one cannot behave in a civil manner, then they can
play in the twit filter. This past week alone! Jeesh!

What mail reader are you using? Perhaps I can offer some suggestions.
BTW, who is your news server. Perhaps that is the problem? Some news
servers keep the messages for such a short period of time. You can kind
of check this if you google for your id and see the messages have been
archived but aren't on your server. Another idea is to check under
options to see if you have a box checked that indicates to only keep
messages a certain number of days old or of a certain size.

This paragraph is confusing, I'm not sure you understand the
terminology. OE *is* a newsreader. Your ISP wouldn't have anything to
do with the newsreader, that runs on your local machine, but the ISP
often provides access to a news server. If not, then it would be a
third party like news.individual.net. If you aren't using the same news
server as the other person, you may well see different message sets.

I'm using Outlook Express. Tell us exactly how you have your columns
sorted.

Believe me, it is missing at this end. I have two news servers:
news.individual.net and verizon.net. My post of yesterday is missing from
both. I have gone to View in Outlook Express and my columns are sorted as
follows:
Attachment
Mark for Offline
Watch/Ignore
Subject
From
Sent
Size
All the above are checked.
Flag and Lines are unchecked

I assume that you are marking conversations you want to watch using the menu
choices Message, Watch Conversation. If not, do so. That will turn the
conversations red. From this point on, in this explanation, we'll use the
correct term: threads

Now: At the top of the column, the "watched" column has a set of eyeglasses
in the heading. Click it. Hit the Home key, which will take your cursor to
the top of the subject list. You should see all your watched (red) threads
at the top, with the latest ones at the top, older ones down lower. Below
the watched threads, the UNwatched threads will be black, also with the
latest at the top.

I haven't done this in a while, so at this point, if they're not sorted the
way I described, click on the Sent heading. That will sort by time/date, but
may put the latest at the bottom of the list. Use your End key to go all the
way to the bottom to check this. If the latest ones are at the bottom, click
the Sent heading once more and you should be all set. Don't ever mess with
it again.

If you choose an UNwatched thread to watch, and click Message, Watch
Conversation, it will turn red, and jump into the group of other red ones,
based on when the first message in the thread was posted. Might be at the
top, or in the middle.

Note that when you sort this way, it messes up one nice feature: If you sort
only by Subject, and then highlight the first message in the list, you can
(usually) type the first letter of the subject of the message you're looking
for, and the cursor will jump to that place in the alphabet. You might want
to try this before sorting as I've mentioned above, just to be aware of the
potential.

Frankly, Doug, I think Outlook Express hiccupped yet again. All my settings
are essentially the way they have always been, yet these things happen
periodically. Looks like I should indeed switch to Forte Agent (although I
think it's tedious) or some other news reader.

I recommend Google Groups Beta. They had a bit of a slow-down on
Sunday, but they came back. When Damsel/Carol asked if anyone saw her
two posts, that she couldnt find, I found them right away on Google
Groups, and posted them for her. I hope she found them. (They appeared
on my screen right away).
