I'm in 8th grade. But today; As I was exiting the lobby at school I was calling the bike shop casue' I needed some new cleats. About five red necks said "hey there’s that [censored] loser !probably doesn't even have service on that phone." I about lost it. I turned around & told him to [censored] off! I'm just thinking about how I have to put up w/ this [censored] Tomorrow. I mean that is the kind of stuff I just can't put up w/!!!😠 Oh well, only about twenty five dayz' left, lot's of cycling to do, group rides to go to, ect: I will miss my teachers I have known for two years though. It's weird to say good bye to some one you have seen almost every day for the past one or two years, knowing you will more than likely never see them again, you dig?

Leave them at it Ryan, they are jealous of your talents and determination. Do you know that I seem to remember someone, obviously not me, saying it was a hicktown. Now you just look at is a stage race, tomorrow can get tough, and all the days are tough, but there is always a finishing line. There is always a race for the brave of heart to win.

Don't bother about it Ryan, you're on to the next phase of your life. Remember Nina Simone banging out Bach for hours on end and not getting a place because she was black. Whatever you do keep banging the hours in.

Thank you for your words of encouragement Fred. Speaking of, I sure hope I can start racing this season. Being around, riding w/ other roadies is so much better than being by my self. I found a bunch of guys who get together every Monday evening! It's great! I have been waiting for something like this to come along. BTW 172 last week, 60 so far this week. At my first group ride yesterday I averaged 22 MPH. I was surprised I did that well, didn't get dropped by the main group once during the entirety of the ride. It beat the hell out of me though! At the very last stretch of the ride, I thought I was about to fall of my bike. I kept sprinting & fell a littel behind, not quite droped. but it was over before I knew it. & a guy was nice enough to give me a lift home. I love that feeling, that very last stretch & you have a feeling of accomplishment. Your brain tells you your happy, no red necks to put up w/ at the moment. Your happy.🙂

Well done Ryan, that's all good stuff. How did you piano recital go? Hey what's wrong with Rednecks? Most of the older ones are Rednecks on this site, And I love 'em to bits. Just keep riding, keep banging 200 miles a week for the next month, and we'll look at other options. That warm fuzzy glow of achievement, being an old miserable git, even I can still remember them.

Maybe I could rephrase the word "red neck". I could use "white trash" or "wigger". What I mean is; under cultured ignorant arrogant low life louts who just don't care were they are going in life. But I see what your saying. I hate to use names though, I hate to classify people because you just can't. We have new 'red neck' neighbors that just moved next store & they are the nicest people.

Oh yes, my recital was good. It went well!

Hey Ryan, I don't usually post here, but you've got guts, putting up with s**t like that. You're doing fine, you're cooler than most ppl I knew in 8th grade (wasn't that long ago *lol*), especially those losers at school. You've got a passion and a hobby that'll last you your whole life - they're not interested in more than putting ppl down to raise their own self image. They'll find out the hardway that the world outside of school doesn't work like that. I know it's tough, and some days it doesn't seem that way, but you'll make it fine 🙂 Build on the friendships you have at school and with the bike club, they're gold. Best of luck... *grin* And if you ever want to move out - Canada's not that bad a place... Colder than Kentucky, by warmer than Alaska🙄

8th grade! Don't worry about it mate, this sort of [censored] treatment is a direct relection of the intellect of the guys hassling you. The more you react, the more they'll do it. So next time, just walk on...find someone else at school who's into cycling and forget the morons.

ryan, when you get a bit older you'll realise there is a LOT more [censored] ahead of you, its just the tip of the iceberg.

You are young enough to focus on cycling seriously and hopefully make a career out of it. I wish i had the chance to do that when i was your age.

School is tough but you have a great chance of doing something you love for a living and something that most of us can only dream about.

Ignore the arses at school and stay focused.

We have a saying, 'dont let the [censored] grind ya down' because they will try every day to bring you down and break you....dont give in to them.

People fear the unknown & road biking, to them, is "the unknown". Remember when you mentioned the movie "breaking Away" 😕 He was different & unappreciated but he stuck to his guns. His parents didn't even understand him because he spoke Italian at the dinner table. If your High school is like mine, most students will have a little more incentive to act like adults. Hang in there because you are surrounded by "red stater's". I'm fortunate because I live in a red state but, only 4 miles from Wash., d.c. so the locals are more cultured. Still, when I get in a bind, I have the option of tellin' em' to go feck themselves or if I get really angry; that I will give them a "one way ticket to meet Jesus" :eek:

I live in Boulder, CO. Can't get any more blue than that. Well maybe the bay area.
I've been cut off, swerved at, had objects thrown at, by people with Dean stickers on their cars, Kerry stickers on their cars, and Bush stickers on their cars. It doesn't make any difference where you live. People in cars always view cyclists as an impediment on the road. Blue state drivers are just as much jerks as red state drivers.
The best advice for Ryan while riding is to keep your mouth shut. Its better to live and ride another day than be severely injured or worse. Dead!

MP is right; there's a lot of nonsense ahead, but here's an insight from Unlce Lokstah: nothing is worse, nothing at all, than the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. Nothing is meaner than a 14 year old boy, even the nice ones. I was a [censored]. My friends were [censored]. And we were harmless nerds.

It all improves, so long as you stick to your principles and relax (something I don't think you'll have trouble with, as you seem like a thoughtful gent). Generally, the obnoxious losers lose interest, and you'll find interesting people gravitating towards you (and you to them). By college, it's a wild, wonderful ride.

If all else fails, get the hell out of Kentucky.

I never said it felt bad here. I was just pointing out the idiocy of thinking only red-staters engage in that type of activity. Whats the point of switching? Seems people there are just as uncourteous as here.
