I must rant!

There are certainly butt-head [censored] all over the country, but in small town rural America you mostly have a homogeneous society where the [censored] actively seek out anybody different - different sporting activity, different religion, different ethnicity, different sexuality, different clothes, or different hair style.

In more diverse areas, at least the butt-heads aren't the ruling party - and the bike riders aren't such a minority that they get singled out.

Know what happened today? Ok, this week we have to take this test big test that is sent out by the educational system to see how well the state of Ky. is doing. The test the teachers are stressed to cover all year so the school can get money if we do good, the dreaded "CATS" test. Any way it's a big deal & I could go on........But some [censored] sitting in front of me kept turnning back & laghing at me while I was testing. He kept whispering "I'm gona cut off that long hair tree hugging liberal". Ha, he got sent to 'inhouse suspension'. It's no fun over there!

Nobody likes to "rat" on people but your co-workers are harassing you and creating a hostile work environment. This type of situation is covered under the law, not unlike sexual harassment. i'd suggest that you do the following:
1. Tell the offending parties that you consider their behavior offensive and have as a witness to informing them one of your friends at work.

2.Tell them further that if they persist, that you will register an official complaint with the human resources, personnel section of your company, specifying who said what, where and when, and who heard it.

3. If you don't get support from your company IMMEDIATELY call a federal
agency such as O.S.H.A., or which ever one has their name on that mandtory
posting about discrimination (sorry I can't think of their name)

4. You company should be aware that they are accountable to you and the FEDS. monitarily for not taking action.

This is serious stuff and should not be tolerated!

I would ask that anyone who has gone through a situation of harassment add their comments and guidance.

I almost sent someone to meet Jesus when i was in 8th grade. I'm the one of the most level-headed people you will ever meet. I go 1/2 way to meet people who have differences. This instance i was backed into a corner so i pounced on the mindless feck. He instigated it. He came very close to meeting his maker, that is if faculty had not pulled me off of him. I'm not proud of it. What I'm saying is what everyone else is saying is that 13,14, hell-even 25 yr.olds can be spiteful. Its just a right of passage. Today I had some words w/ a fellow employee who is 15 yrs. my junior. He instigated a situation because he knows I'm a Progressive Independent. He has all of this aggression because he knows my political stance & his best friend, red-stater buddy has just quit the company. I have gone out of my way to be on good terms w/. him but he nips at my heels for the aforementioned reason. I suspect he's A) surrounded by Lib's at work B) voted for Bush C) sad his red-state friend left for greener pastures & D) he is of enlistment age & might feel anguish for not stepping up to join to fight Bush's war because everyone knows the enlistment #'s are down. E) He knows I'm a vet so I won't have to. I came close today to asking him why he doesn't enlist, like i did but, I thought better of it. I might xfer to a blue state-Maryland-anyway. My best friend left for Maryland last month

Or calls you a flag burner, [censored], queer, when was the last time you [censored] a tree, your going to hell, no one cares what you think; then they hide your books, I could go on & on. I'm trying to take a test which could determine what classes you are allowed to take in highschool; & some [censored] in front of you insults you, & won't quite bothering you. How would you 'vent' your anger? You see, most of the time I keep quiet & try to ignore it, like I did taday. But still.....that littel spark just went off in my brain, I felt a sizzling sensation in my blood. You ever get real mad like that? I'm trying to take an improtant freakin test & I have to put up w/ this [censored]. Am I not allowed to get [censored]? Does that mean there is something wrong w/ me??? Cause' I have been doing that alot lately. BTW, you guys wana know how I 'vent my anger'? I ride 25 or 30 miles after school, my 'anger managment', [censored]! Oh 'my goodness' chee golly your gona make me upset & I just might turn "columbine"! IS IT OK TO GET [censored]?!?!? I want to know how you would talk to me if I agreed w/ your side of the spectrum on the issues. You know why they call this the "Soap Box"? Sounds very much to me like you should move to a different State. My own philosophy (Stoic ideas) is that you should eliminate the stress you have the power to eliminate. What that means is if you're in prison, or something, you can't do much about your environment till they let you out of jail. But in this case, you can move somewhere else, meet more liberal people and not be dragged down by all the negativity that surrounds you.
I talk from experience as well as I've had similar problems in the past and, like davidmc, got so angry I nearly winded up overstepping the mark. As I recall, I lifted up a huge container of olive oil and hurled it into the air so all the oil winded up leaking onto the floor and the entire area was awash - people sliding all over the place. The thing is, pressure builds up and something has to give.
You need to get out of that situation as these folks don't seem to want to leave you in peace. It sounds like a re-run of Daniel son in the Karate Kid movie but now you need a Japanese/American Karate expert to sort out some of those bullies (chuckle)

Surprise but I tend to agree with Co on this one...We have all been there in one form or another....I was a big kid and was called names but the other kids were smaller and faster and I rarely caught one to give them a beating.. However that was then..these days thanks to you lib friends you can't even defend yourself in school or you get expelled...

Anyway, I never displayed such hostility as you seem to be holding on to. I've already told you...don't kick in the TV...talk to your parents about it..You should be talking to them not to strangers...

Or, a fundamentally good 8th grader and forum regular comes to the Bloody Soapbox to angrily vent about being bullied, and the only two respondants who give him a hard time just happen to be resident conservatives.

A parade of members tell Ryan to "hang in there," "keep riding," and "consider moving some day to a place where he fits in better," and you come along and make a quip about the Columbine murders (on the anniversary of the tragedy, no less).

If this has become a thread about liberal Ryan railing against conservatives--including you and Zapp--it's because you baited the kid. Grow up.
