Well, Turnpike does it for me but that is probably massive overkill
unless you are looking for a new email/newreader at the same time. Most
B/Band modem/router boxes can do it too (and then the PCs can synch from
those with a good old 'net time ....' batch command.) Try googling for a
stand alone solution.

You're assuming a newer computer that still receives power when it's
switched off. This one does not have such an "intelligent" power supply
(no software shut-off).
You mentioned 1998 or summat - I thought everything was ATX standard
with standby by then. 8>. Mine all were.
