Semi-reverse psychology you say? I'm not that clever (or quick-witted
either, for that matter).

To pike or not to pike.

Won't be on the bike that's for sure, I've done so few km since July 07 that
everything hurts after 100km.

Could bring the pushie in the car and park at the neighbours and pedal the
last km....

Sorta.

The "Black Knight" (ref: Monty Python, "The Holy Grail"). "Just a scratch". Them be real cyclists!!!

> I'm not that clever (or quick-witted either, for that matter).

What you have done with the Blade is inspired. Really.

I once bought a "Norman Ross" $49 10 speed (about 1976). Self-assembly, cross fingers.

After a week, the chainwheel had to be welded to the crank.

A few weeks later, the brakes (not just pads) needed replacing.

After that, no major probs, but frequent fixes on gears, shifters, bearings, etc.

Six month later I sold it to a drunk who lost his licence and wanted transport home
from the pub.

Since then I bought quality parts and good frames (even one custom). No further agony.

But you have made a cheapy work. [I have a PhD and do strategic consulting to
big, fat, greedy companies, and I DID NOT manage to get a cheapy working in
my favour. Your story is a classic. Mine is one of throwing money at components.
We are both happy and probably satisfied, but from different paths].

I'm not sure I can be described as serious, I haven't been on the pushie
in over a week, a serious cyclist wouldn't have let little things like
rain stop them.

Got the flu now, so I don't see myself doing any riding this week either

1 km might be the most, I won't be there as I'm racing on the Old Hume
outside of Gunning both days.

No it won't, I'm planning to cycle to Tarago and back on Saturday
afternoon to prevent just that type of cheating.

And I'm a recumbent rider, so not a "cyclist" at all. Don't wear the special clothing....

Doesn't pants with tight legs count as special clothing for recumbent
riders?

I own a bicycle? does that count?

The missus wants me to use it more often ... but that seems like a
whole lot of effort

Count for what? It might mean you are a moto with cyclo tendencies.
That's like being half Liberal mate.

There's a follow up line to this, but I'm too tired to post it.

Recumbent riders don't need clothes to look different!!!

You own a car? Same diff.

I bet your bicycle has a freewheel. The next step is to add a motor
and then what have you got?

Admittedly, if there is ever an Unaugaral that doesn't clash with the
Vets 2 Day, I'd probably choose the tourer over the fixie.

A skirt would really count as "special".
