Because it can be tough to determine if they achieved success because of or in spite of their training regimes.
True story - I met an American UCI-rider at the gym who was telling me of his good times down @ the Tour of Oz. He was drinking himself silly before a race with some Euro-pros. One of them took the bunch sprint. He also told me to get off the spinning bike and lift weights.
