  1. Hi Everyone,

    Just signed up!

I was woundering what kind of top speeds people have seen on their steeds?

I have four bikes - WTP 4 Seasons BMX, Specialized StumpJumper Disc MTB, Specialized Allez Comp Road and a custom build Santa Cruz Blur MTB.

I have seen about 28mph on flat and 39mph downhill on the Specialized StumpJumper Disc and can get about 34mph on flat and 43mph downhill on the Specialized Allez Comp.
The downhills weren't that long where I did the runs - I reckon with more space they could be improved.

I was keen to know what us 'normal' cyclists can achieve after reading about the redbull road rage challenge over in California where the guy who won achieved over 58mph at certain time stages!

    cya.

  2. My speeds peak at 43-47 on the downhills around here.

  3. I've reached 37mph on my Trek 1000 on flat ground.

I've hit 43mph on my T1 Barcode bmx bike on a CRAZY downhill. One of those police things was set up on the side of the road that tells people how fast they're moving and thats how I know what the speed was on that.

  4. There is a .75 miles road here that is 12%. I hit 48 about halfway down then start braking

What bike are you riding? I think braking a little later may see over 50 mph!
This is the big figure to over come!

Gotten up to 104.4km/hr on a downhill once, but nearly shat myself. Regularly get to around 80-90km/hr.

On the flat have crused on my own at around 40km/hr for an hour or so and with a bunch have kept the speed up to around the 50km/hr mark.

Did manage to get a 48.9km/hr in a sprint finish once.

i could go faster but my cheeks get too tight on the seat from all the puckering

  8. we dont really have many big downgrades around my area that I know of...the ones I do know are in residential areas so oyu really have to watch for cars running stop signs...this also means the hills are shorter and most times with limited runoff area...but even with all that I've cranked my EZ-3 up to a quick 29-30mph...if I had a good long straight (or gentle curves) I'm sure I could crank it faster.

  9. I have hit about 52 mph (84 kph) on the downside of hogpen gap here in Georgia. On my old bike it was pretty scary, the last time on my new cannondale r3000 it felt fairly stable. I would sure hate to fall off at that speed, you would be looking a bit worse for the wear.

    WOW! - 52mph, that's fast!

I think falling off at anything over 25mph on tarmac is going to cause big pain - never mind anything twice that speed!

    Can anyone better 52mph?

My goal is 50mph+ when spring time comes around. I will also need to find a steep and long enough gradient!

  11. 53MPH on one of the Steepest Scottish hills.

    Man, your FAST!!!
    104.4kph is around 65mph!!!!
Your cruising speed is pretty good too - 40kph is around 24mph.
On the flat I can run at around that pace on my Allez for quite long periods.

It's a great feeling just flying along at a good pace on the flat knowing it is you who are powering that pace!

I think 65mph is going to be very hard to beat! - Anyone?

    Not bad!

The 65mph chap has now kinda ruined you fast 50mph+ guys reputations!

I'm planning on a visit to Scotland this spring/summmertime. Any good advise for areas of interesting riding both on and off road. I'm planning on doing a little touring around for the MTBing and want a good route for some road riding as well. Preferably point me in the direction of the steepest hill you know of - I need to join the 50mph+ boys club! - Maybe even 60mph+ ;-)

There is a very steep hill over here in Ireland called Church Rd. 1 in 4% dead straight for 1/4 of a mile. Have knocked on the door of 75MPH with a good tail wind once. (74.7MPH)

  15. [
Some of the steepest hills around here are also the some of the hardest in Scotland. Cockbridge to Tomintoul (The Lecht) :thats where I did my 53mph. There is also Glenshee (The Devil's Elbow) and the Cairn O Mount, where I reckon a good day you could hit 60. Nice dry roads, no traffic etc.
All of these hills are located in Grampian Region

The Lecht Road is the name given to the stretch of the A939 that runs from [censored] Bridge in Aberdeenshire to Tomintoul in Moray. Passing over the Ladder Hills, it lies between the peaks of Carn Liath and Beinn a'Chruinnich and reaches a high point at 640m (2090 feet). This road is usually the first road in Scotland to be blocked by snow in winter.

  16. Just had to post this number, many years ago when I was much younger I sprinted flat out down this steep hill, ( about 45 sec to climb up)

I reached 116 kph, the speed didn't scare me, it was the slowing down, practically took forever. And when you back off the tension and relax your bike goes into a speed wobble.

    2006

  17. my top speed was 62 mph drafting behind a large trailer downhill. It was a pretty intense feeling. I routinely hit 50-55 when I'm hitting the hills in the Sierra's. I love to climb.....because what goes up must come down! Now since I am an old fart, the fastest flat sprint I've done was around 37mph

Jesus! Your f***ing FAST! - we all are not worthy!
How did you and the bike feel at that kind of speed?

Where the hell is that hill? - I really am keen on having a go.
What bike were you riding? - Stopping must have been a real issue?

I think, my friend that you surely must be the gravity winner!

Congrats! - Please send details of the location of Church Road - Pleaaaase!

Let us know how you get on.

    57mph is very good!

I feel real slow reading these figures.
