In Dave Morris' article (24 Feb.) he asks, what Scottish Labour can do for our wild places and all
who care for them. Presumably he means in terms of spending taxpayers' money.
If the Ramblers Association and other users really care about these places, perhaps they should now
consider contributing to their upkeep and relieve some of the burden of their recreation from those
who do not participate.
A simple annual access licensing scheme of perhaps £100 per person would go some way towards care
and maintenance and at less that £2 a week would be considerably less that most others pay for their
chosen recreational activities. It would also have the knock-on effect of creating jobs.
It's time the Ramblers realised that increased access has a cost implication and pay for their
recreation.
