"That's why hel***s are a life saving idea" (sorry for this one)

Watching a bit of Tour coverage on VS and they show a two bike crash,
neither rider whacking their head in any sort of obvious way, but the
commentator (American, non Bob Roll guy) has to pointlessly quip,
"That's why hel***s are a life saving idea". Say what? There has been
not a death in the history of the tour that could have been prevented
with a helmet. Poor Fabio's been claimed by some, but please, didn't
he go 50 mph into a rock, face first? There was guy ortwo that
slipped off a cliff, and that Brit that died from a vodka tonic and
some benadryl or blow or whatever.

Don't troll, Landy. It's beneath you.

I ain't trolling. I just hate to see helmet hysteria and propaganda
when I'm trying to enjoy sport. Do you have any evidence that anyone
has either died or had an unrecoverable brain injury that could have
been prevented during the Tour?

Ech. Just this weekend, a guy at the dog park I've never met ended up
yapping about cycling with me. His ego was as big as his beer gut--he
claimed his hel*** had saved him half a dozen times from certain
death! Wow!

I'm just tired of the hysteria and dangerous reductionism.

I haven't noticed any symptoms of helmet hysteria amongst the general
population. But then I've be busy in my office all day.

In fact, the only helmet hysteria I have encountered lately has been
your post...

And this subject has been discussed, and flamed to death, which is why
polite posters leave it alone.
