I thought I would offer 2 cents..
The tough part of soldering the shower valve fittings are not necessarily
the soldering. You do need that skill, cause you don't need a FIRE in the
wall. Getting the water out of the way that is in the pipe is critical.
When you get the copper (it is copper right?) hot enough, steam from the
h20 that may be hiding is the enemy. If water is around you will get steam.
If you get steam you get a cold joint. Leaks every time. Good luck on it.
Since you have access, you could use compression fittings. BTDT..I have way
too much experience in this area.. won't get into that...
