Quote of the day (from non-riders)

Was out riding yesterday, a guy stopped in his car and shouted out the
window "Hey you've lost a wheel", to which I replied... "Yes I know...
I'm out looking for it now".... stumped him with that one. At least he
gave me a smile after my retort :)

I have been suprised by the number of adults that dont seem to know what
a unicycle is. I am fairly certain they were serious, if they were
there cant be much hope in life for their children. I have heard three
parents say to there children "look at that funny man on his tricycle"
or "look at him on his tricycle" Its a worry, poor children.

My favorite coment so far (only realy because he thought I was awsome
:D) was when a guy who seems to wait in his van for about 30 mins each
day after I get back from school and when I go out riding who watches
me (no he isnt a peado). As he was walking back to his van one day he
said "You must have the ballance of a well tuned cat because you are
f**cking amazing on that thing" so I told him that honestly I didnt but
he didnt believe me, I even ofered him ago but he thought he would
break his neck. Maybe he has some strange illness were his neck is
realy week or something.

I was filming for a friend who is doing a unicycling documentary(about
me) and I was doing some natural trials on some rocks in the parking
lot my local zoo and a mom in her minivan pulled up with a car full of
kids and watched me do a fairly simple line (on my first try amazingly)
and when I finished the line everyone in the minivan cheered and
clapped and then the mom drove off before I could even say hi.....

A few days after I started riding, I walked my uni into my local mall
and as I was talking to a friend and old lady gave me the most
disgusted look and said something along the lines of "You should be
ashamed of yourself, there are children watching."
Meanwhile, her friend walking beside her gave me an apologetic smile to
compensate for the first lady's rudeness.

I found it more funny than insulting. I just stood there and smiled.
She was out the door before I could say something witty.

Funny that; I do notice some people react very strangely - and to me,
slightly incomprehensibly. The reactions range from the (normal)
staring or excitement at seeing something cool to people ignoring me or
looking offended. Some people definitely seem to give me dirty looks
as if I'm doing something somehow naughty - even if I'm only pushing
the uni along!

Actually another interesting reaction I sometimes get is when I pass
someone and they stare at me and, as they're looking at me, I try to be
friendly and smile back - and they don't react.

It occurred to me that maybe when people talk about being "objectified"
for whatever reason, this might be how it feels: it wasn't that people
were staring that bothered me (though that be rude too) it was the fact
they were just staring at me as a "weird phenomenon" and not reacting
to me as a real person. It's pretty weird when you think about it -
that sometimes if you look noticeable enough people stop noticing -you-
but still stare. I think so, anyhow.

Dave: Just a question. What use is a unicyle with no seat? And no
pedals!
Mark: To answer a question with a question: What use is a skateboard?
Dave: Skateboards have wheels.
Mark: My wheel has a wheel!

I rode my unicycle(Nimbus 36'er) to a friends school and was walking it
down the hall to lock it up in the office until after the football game
and people saw me and stared out the doors of the classrooms and i
heard people following me saying "Is that a unicycle? It looks like a
unicycle it only has one wheel... That can't be a unicycle it's too
huge!" ect.... it was pretty amusing....

Lately I have been getting a lot of people asking wheres the handlebar
rather than the other wheel! What is up with that? I have to admit
though that it is less anoying. Also yes a lot of chicks do think that
riding a unicycle is cool.

At 3am while riding in a parking lot:
Car goes by on the road. About a minute later, it turns around and
drives slowly into the parking lot. Two guys are in the car. The one on
the passenger opens his window and says in awe, "Killer unicycle!"
Then they drive off in the direction they were going.
