  1. Try eating less and exercising more, and a low carb diet will deplete your
body of electrolytes so that you'll need them. ( which is normal)

I need a lot less salt than before low carb or before dieting.

  3. I need more electrolytes in general, as do most people.

Perhaps it has something to do with your previous food choices.

Not when it makes me retain water like a water tower... It HURTS my ankles
when i retain water in them.. I would prefer to avoid that as much as
    possible.

Are you quite sure it's just salt intake per se that causes that
problem for you? I used to ASSume that excess salt consumption was
my problem when my ankles and feet swelled, then later found out
(after some minor heart palpitations, and subsequent blood work) that
the problem was really due to an imbalance in other electrolytes --
    primarily potassium and magnesium.

    Yeah.

And I am not impressed by your knowlege (or lack of) on lab values.

I have a 4 year BS-MT degree and 18 years in the field.

I think I know the lab values of hypothyroidism.

    You obviously do not.

What I know about myself is that if I eat too much salt (as in salted
fish etc), I feel quite bad.

  12. My previous food choices included the 2/3 lb Double thickburger and a med
fry and a Med. Reg Dr. Pepper at hardees.. enough salt to start an ocean
alone.. Now I can not even get away with adding a bit to my eggs.

  13. Yes I am sure.. dont eat salt for a week and I drop down to normal. Add
salt back to the mix and I swell up 5 lbs. Driving DH crazy because I used
to salt everything heavily and now I make him add his own salt.

Just keep a watch on it, mmkay? Salt consumption making you swell up
to the point of edema in the feet and such isn't necessarily 'normal'
    and could indicate other problems.
