I'm sure you've read this before and your other celery is still in the
ground but I'll post it again for anyone who might not know and it be
useful to them- Wrapping heads of celery in aluminum foil and storing in
the fridge has kept my celery crisp a lot longer than in the past when I
just kept in the plastic bag it comes in when purchased at the market.

Cauliflower was $3.00 at one market I went to yesterday. It was a lovely
head but a trifle small so I opted for the convenience of frozen instead.

You CAN'T tell the diff, that's why for home use I buy the very cheapest
vodka I can, one of my faves is the big plastic 1.75 litre bottle at a local
stupormarket chain, the label simply sez "Vodka", suits me fine for
$9.99...I like Fresca or Diet 7 - Up and a splash of OJ with mine. If I
have guests I'll cave and get Smirnoff...which in a _New York Times_ taste
test a few years beat out all the foofier brands...

When I'm out I drink vodka rocks, so I order a premium brand and there IS a
taste difference. Still, I laff at the dummies who order an Absolut or
Stoly Bloody Mary or whatever mixed drink, the well vodka will do just fine
for a mixed drink...

lettuce leaf basil people talked about, too.

I grew two huge pots of tomatoes on the deck this year. One has since
died and is already in the composter but the other is still producing
and has a batch of green tomatoes on it as well as many new buds. Cool
weather has arrived today (80s) and I'm not sure how long until it gets
too cold? My fall back plan is a fried green tomato meal if nothing else?

and sit them somewhere and use them as they ripen.

If I remember, next year I will try making fried green tomatoes
because when I did make them, I didn't care for them. Weird
because I *adore* fried pepper rings.

Have you tried wrapping green tomatoes in newspaper? They do
turn red tho' I don't think the flavor is the greatest.

I found out that they grow more compact if they touch and they will
also self blanch..

Growers here wrap the developing head of celery in a tube of card or
paper to blanch it (while its still growing).
