Power Agent 7?

do i need the new USB cradle in order to download data to powerAgent 7 or can i use the old style serial with adaptor as i do now? i'm assuming that the driver they provide is for the new USB cradle.

This set-up works fine (USB/Serial adapter) for me.

i guess it shouldn't hurt anything but is there is no need to install the new driver then?

You are correct, the included USB driver is for the new USB cradle. PowerAgent 7 should work with the old serial cradles, either plugged directly into a serial port or configured as a serial port with some other adapter (like Keyspan). Personally, I recommend the USB cradle. Saris sells them individually on their website.

Thanks I will let them know. They have in house software people now. One would hope for a little more🙁

Sorry if I was of topic. But you point out exactly why I want to get to know PA7 software... so I can inteligently relay the differences with fairness and to explain the pros and cons of each. I don't want to say "Oh yeah that PM I suggested you buy is pretty much useless untill you pony up another $100."

The power meter is pretty big step for most people.

i was able to import a .cvs file that i exported from WKO+ though.

Hi, very quickly, as Turkey is waiting. . .

1. did you restart after install?
2. if yes, then try going to Edit Menu/Application Settings and de-selecting "auto detection" and scrolling down to the port (dev/cu.usbserial-0B2)

See if it downloads then. If that doesn't work, try trashing the FTDI (usb) driver (System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext), RESTART, then trash the PowerAgent 7 app, reinstall from latest installer, then RESTART. Supposedly the latest installer includes a USB driver install, so you shouldn't have to do separate install. Check your System/Library/Estensions folder to see if it's there before you attampt download; also before you attempt download, check Application Settings to see what port options are available (i.e. autodetect or dev/cu.usbserial-0B2); if only autodetect is available, go with that; if dev/cu.usbserial-0B2 is available, then choose that.

FYI, I spoke with Saris today (I just got a 300PT), and an update to PwerAgent 7 is due on Friday. Reportedly it will fix the abundant USB issues under OSX. [There is currently no way to update the firmware on the 300PT's computer console until it is fixed.]

The install disc that came with it was similarly useless; nothing but Windows files... 🙁

OK, I have it on fairly good authority that the PowerAgent 7 (Mac) update should be released on the website either this afternoon, or tomorrow at the latest.

Hopefully the update will cure a myriad of bugs that plague us few Mac users who are relegated to using it. (I think it's time for an Intel-based Mac so I can just be done with it and upgrade to Cycling Peaks).

PowerAgent v7.0.1 for OSX is now posted on the Saris.com website.
