Y'all must be talking about really cheap turkey bologna, or something
similar. Or maybe bologna that's been left in the fridge in a plastic
bag for 3 months (that turns it kind of sticky-slimy and I throw it out.)

Bologna is about like hotdogs (only larger) and there are good ones and
not-so-good. Fried decent bologna with cheese makes a really good
sandwich. Frying browns it a little and removes some of the grease,
plus the residual heat softens the cheese.

Ring bologna is even better. Cut it into chunks, brown it a little, and
add sauerkraut or sliced cabbage and cook until the cabbage is done. Mmmm.

    Best regards,
    Bob

Thank you, Bob. I thought that I am really weird, because I really
like bologna, but just the ones made by either Schaller & Weber or
Karl Ehmer, both long established companies in New York, both using
    German family recipes.

Barbara has tasted the Schaller & Weber cold cuts, including the
bologna and she liked them. :o)

LOL! Erp! I never could stand bologna. It was never allowed in our
house when I was growing up.

    Bologna!!??
Perhaps it was mortedella. Egads! does anyone remember that corny
little movie where Sophia Loren was complaining all the time about not
having her mortedella. I think many Americans would have got a bigger
laugh out of it if it was translated bologna (be that it is Italian
    bologna, never no mind.)
Does the prefix (morte) have anything to do with the naming of this
    meat? Tee Hee.
    Dee Dee

Yes, bologna! Hate the stuff. Actually, I like mortedella if I get it at
    an Italian deli.

Perhaps is like you say 🙂
We love Mortadella! Sometimes at 10 O'clock, Italians eat a crispy and fresh
"rosetta" bread or some Pizza bianca just baked with mortadella inside.
    PARADISE!
    Cheers

He's here, laughing. Same as last time. And the time before that.

He'll be back in a about a week and post some more "edible" blobyulla

There have been [a few] times where some poster put forth an opinion
that ended up producing a post (and more) from you where you proceeded
    to take them to task.

Get those taken care of. I got Lyme Disease a few years ago. I know
what I'm talking about. 😉 (I actually got it, and I don't recommend
    it)

I'm just now going through this thread. Very entertaining.

Oh, I can't stand it either, Wayne, and ironically enough, my hubby insists
on a fried baloney sandwich for dinner tonight. He's got a craving. Ugh.
I think he's gonna have to make it himself and I'll picnic in the backyard
or something. I don't want it in the house!

Ohhhh! Nothing better than a fried balogna sandwich, browned in
    butter, and shaped like PacMan.

I buy bologna roughly once every 10 years or so, and when I do, my part
gets fried. Crash likes it in sandwiches, cold.

Well, he ended up eating it cold on rye with Kraft cheese slices inbetween
the entire POUND of bologna. 2:30 am found him in the bathroom for the
third time. LOL. Serves him right. He claims he's done with bologna now.

A full POUND of balogna? I'd be pointing and laughing at him. ROFL!

Personally, I could easily forgo balogna for the rest of my life and never miss
it. However, several times when I was a kid I had BBQed baloney, and I have to
say that it was pretty good. I could see my way to eating a fried balogna
sandwich., even though my personal view of the stuff would never have inspired me
to think of it on my own.

To my mind, it's basically sliced lard or shortening. But it's not bad
when fried. When you say you have had barbecued balogna, what exactly
do you mean? Different people have so many different concepts of what
    that word means.

Sorry. I am not a Barbecue purist ;-) It was sliced thick and grilled over charcoal.

Cool! Neither am I. But I just wanted to make sure. Can't imagine
cooking bologna low and slow for a few hours. LOL! We'll have to give
    this a try sometime.
