Somatization disorder.
No, not Alzheimer's. Jan's self-reported history and her
behavior clearly show the classic symptoms of somatization
disorder.
While I certainly agree that Jan's symptoms and history
strongly suggest some type of somatization disorder,
the diagnoses of Alzheimers Disease and SD are not
mutually exclusive. In fact I suspect that Jan probably
meets the criteria for several disorders. IOW she has
layered problems.
But the worst of her problems is neither mental nor
physical. Her worst problem is her anger, hatred, and
bigotry that gets spewed regularly in this newsgroup and her
proclivity for disrupting conversations whenever anyone
expresses a view that differs from hers by calling people
liars, member of EOM, Jew Boy, etc.

this disease, Jan stridently denies its very existence,
which is itself a symptom of the disease.
But the definition can get circular. For example if I say
that you have Somatization Disorder and you deny it I can
say that is a symptom of the disorder.
Quoted message said:When Jan states for the fiftieth time that "conventional
medicine has no answers," she's admitting that she has
done the usual dance from doctor to doctor that is
characteristic of SD sufferers, searching for a doctor
that will give her a physical diagnosis instead of telling
her truthfully that she has a mental disorder.
And this is why she is so angry at conventional medicine and
tries to bash it at every opportunity.
Quoted message said:She has also (typically) danced from altie quack to altie
quack, but has been more satisfied with them, because each
has diagnosed a physical cause for her discomfort, and
prescribed "therapy" that has provided temporary relief
because of the psychosomatic phenomenon. She even got
relief for awhile by "zapping" her "parasites" with Quack
Hulda's profitable but worthless gadget.
Not only did she get relief but she said that she thought
that parasites were the explanation for all her problems. Of
course weeks later she thought she was dying of mercury
poisoning after reading about the possibility in a Hulda
Clark book. Jan is clearly very suggestible as evidenced by
the rapid decline in her health followed by equally rapid
improvement within hours of having some amalgams removed.
Placebo responses can indeed be quite dramatic. But alas the
symptom relief is often short lived as evidenced by return
of her symptoms (pain from PN).
Quoted message said:
Jan hates conventional medicine because she perceives that
doctors tell her she's crazy. (Doctors do often stigmatize
SD victims, primarily out of the frustration involved in
treating them.) She would rather be told she is poisoned by
her dental restorations than admit that her mind is causing
her to feel ill. Actually, conventional medicine does offer
effective treatment, but the patient must get beyond denial
to accept psychiatric treatment, and it's unlikely that Jan
will ever do so.
Denial of the illness will prevent her from getting help. Of
course once a person stops denying the illness that is 90%
of recovering from
it.

I wonder if Jan will ever admit that her symptoms are just
as bad as they ever were before she had all her fillings
removed. It would be difficult for her, because to do so
would be to admit she wasted all that money on a quack, and
would negate her ongoing campaign against amalgam and
mercury in any form.
Yes. Cognitive dissonance prevents Jan from accepting that
she got taken to the cleaners.
