i'm glad that there are all these lovely LC recipes for sweets & treats but
when I pop into the newsgroup here and see "Chocolate Creme Brulee" or
anything else along those lines it has a weakening effect on my willpower.
Anyone else?

Nope.
There's a whole big world full of ice cream and baked goods out there.
You just have to learn to live with that. :-)

Not a problem here. Heck, you'd better not turn on the tube or go out of
the house. The assualt on willpower is constant. Of course, for me, it's
not a question of will power any more. And who has time to make alll of the
recipes anyway? I just store them off in a folder on OE until that day when
I need one.
Not really.

i guess i am weak 😉
really though, i don't walk down the cookie aisle and I don't linger near
the ice cream at the grocery store. If i come here it's really NOT to see
"CHOCOLATE GOOEY DELIGHT with splenda"

I not only read recipes for things I'll never make; I cook and bake
high-carb foods I don't eat regularly for other family members.
It's in how I think about it. Some foods are for me and some are not.
I am not "tempted" by cat food. When we had chickens, I bought grain
for them regularly and was not "tempted" by that.
Similarly, the bowl of fruit on the kitchen table is "husband food"
not "Jackie food".

i do this too, i have a family to feed and i can't eat everything they eat.
but i will be more likely to keep carby things that don't tempt me (ie -
gummy fruit snacks for the kids I can live with, not my deal at all however
Oreos would drive me insane, possibly breaking my will)

yes, of course. it reminds me of the old Nancy Reagan anti-drug campain,
"Just Say No"...
some people have a bigger problem and reason goes out the window.

hmm, yeah - Chocolate Creme Brulee vs Cat Food

well, i would think that if you were part of a usenet group for recovering
alcoholics it may bother some to come in and see recipes for drinks, ya know
what I mean? Of course there may be people in that group that just wanted to
slow down on the drinking or cut it out for awhile, they may like to see
those recipes. but I bet the folks with a real problem may find it a bit
annoying.
curious - do recovering alcoholics drink stuff like non-alcoholic beer or
virgin cocktails? anyone know? it's not my territory.

I also do. So I go have some 🙂. That's one of the reasons I make my
low-carb chocolate bark, when I want a piece, it's ok.

This isn't AA or OA.
We're not recovering from eating. Alcoholics have to abstain, we have
to eat. In a diet group for those on a specific, limiting plan, of
COURSE recipes are going to appear as part of offering support.

I eat chocolate daily; small bites of very dark chocolate. I have a lot
of chocolate in the house. I don't feel compelled to stuff myself with
it. I never feel weak (or gluttonous) at the mention of it.
Since recipes are labeled as to their content, you can avoid the ones
you fear the most.
Susan
When the people in this newsgroup decide that they don't need food to
live, and that they can get through life without ever having another
bite of food, you probably won't see too many recipes here either, but
in the meantime...... :-)

I get weak if I see or smell chocolate....but not from the mention of it in
a recipe. Thus, I stay clear of desserts and such....

this doesn't do it for me and it does give me cravings. i've tried.

well, it is a group for people giving up a sugar filled carb diets. i guess
it isn't SugarAnon but i haven't found that yet.
i don't think offering sugar substituties to sugar addicts is supportive.

I completely get that you seem to be having an issue with the recipes
that have been part of this group for at least the decade I've been
reading and posting here. I understand that it may be a problem for you.
I'm just unwilling to agree that it's a problem with the posts.

You're assuming that we're all sugar addicts?
Nuh uh.
