  1. Hi there folks. I'm new to this newsgroup and I was hoping to get a
    little encouragement.

See, I started Atkins (for the 2nd time) on October 1. It worked great
the first month, I lost 10 pounds (going for about 35 more) but now it's
seemed to peter out. The last 3 weeks I haven't lost anything, it's
just kind of hovering. Quite disappointing. I've even started working
out 2 weeks ago to get it moving again, 3 times a week, and no dice so
far. My measurements don't appear to be moving either.

I read all the information out there on stalls and just this past
Saturday I decided to remove citric acid from my diet and see if it
helps. (God, I could use a diet 7up right now. *cry*) Already I've
noticed I don't have to pee quite so often (though I am replacing the
soda I used to drink with water, so I am still getting hydrated) and I'm
not hungry quite so much. Maybe giving up citric acid was a good thing.

I eat 2 meals a day, breakfast (2 scrambled eggs + 3 slices bacon with
coffee) and dinner (usually some meat item and a half a can of green
vegetable). Sometimes I have something in between meals, a atkins bar,
or a slim jim. I also take a multivitamin, plus fish oil and extra
    calcium (mom has osteoporosis (sp)).

I really don't know what else I can do. It's getting very frustrating
to see the scale staying the same, or even moving up a pound. I know
some of it could be water, but it still bogs me down. I wouldn't go
back to regular carb eating because I could practically feel myself
getting fat after a high carb meal, but it's still frustrating.

  3. This is a pretty normal pattern, the early weight loss is mostly water, then
your body seems to pause to adjust. It really doesn't look to me like you
are eating enough, can't really tell because you don't indicate the quantity
for dinner. I would definitely add some leafy vegetables and possibly some
fat, it doesn't look like you are getting much besides the bacon. Mainly,
just have patience and stick to the plan, weight loss is not linear.

Your veggie intake looks a bit on the low side. Could you add a green salad
for lunch, instead of the bar?

  6. the 10 lbs loss you managed to lose may not be due entirely to your effort,
there could things that has happened within that month which are out of your
control but have helped you in losing weight. sometimes we lose more, sometimes
we lose less, and sometimes just seeing that I'm not putting on weight is good
enough encouragement for me. may be it's just one of those month where you try
to sustain the loss your have managed in the past month before you keep on losing.

  8. Deaana,

I had stalled as well and someone suggested the following and it worked:

1- Start sipping on green tea. And instead of having coffee, take green
    tea.
This tea improves metabolism and has lots of health benefits. Read here
    on it:

    http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweightloss/a/greentea.htm

2- Take the 1-A-Day smarcarb multivitamin (instead) as it contains
high Biotin and no iron (important). Biotin helps the body in
    converting fats
into energy. Read on it at:

    http://www.oneaday.com/whatsnew/carb.shtml

Also, make sure you are staying in Ketosis and some crab foods
are not sneaking in on you. Test yourself every morning.

I hope this helps, good luck.

Try eating five meals a day (it speeds up the metabolism), and more food---good
meats and veggies, no Atkins bars or processed foods. It sounds like you've
slowed down your metabolism because your calorie intake is too low.

Do you keep track of your nutrient intake---how many calories, carb grams,
protein grams, fat grams per day? FitDay has an excellent program to help you
track those values, and it will keep you eating the proper amounts of the proper
    things.

Also, drink tons of water. It really helps mobilize the fat.

  10. I want to thank you all for the help. I've set myself up for a fitday
account and I hope to be able to provide better information next time I
    post.

I will try to follow what you all say, but collectively I think you've
said every possible answer :-). Eat more, eat less, eat the same and
hold to the path. Hopefully once I get my fitday stuff up and running
for a bit I'll clear it up that I'm not a 90 pound anorexic. Honest.

Green tea doesn't taste very good to me, but I do have a supplement of
green tea I was hoping would help. I don't like One-a-day because they
don't provide as much as centrum, but I do take a seperate biotin to
    help out.

I will try to exercise more, but I am not real fond of it.

Thanks for all the help guys. :-)

The secret to exercising is to find something that turns into a passion for
you. For me, it's swimming and cycling. When you find that passion, then
doing it is not a chore you have to find time to do. Try riding a bicycle.
It takes you back to your childhood and makes you feel free as a bird.

Do what Atkins SAYS to do after the first two weeks on Phase I, move
on to Phase II. Quite a people have found the stall breaks with
increased carbs. Carbs are not evil, they are an absolutely necessary
part of the diet and Induction is eating intentionally too low for the
    body. Start adding carbs.

I consider how succesful I am on low-carb to be an indicator that I am
just a person heading towards diabetes, so the way I eat now has to be
the way I eat for life. Consider moving towards an ideal of eating
that you can sustain forever, not diet for now. That will mean finding
    a manageable level of carbs.

the book for excuses to not follow the directions. It also ignores
the long list of qualifying questions later in the paragraph. The
list of qualifying questions included if it is still working. Hmm.

The directions say the carb quota during Induction is 20, and that
Induction lasts 14 days. Then OWL starts at 25 for a week, 30 for

well into the top reasons that people stall.

Agreed; this was my experience too. I wish I had some idea of why,
though. Do you have any idea why?

  18. I have not been on here forever but have now lost in between 50 and 60
pounds on "atkins" or low carb. One thing that I reallly crave is salt so I
have been eating nuts quite a bit... find something that you actually like
the taste of, for me it was spicy peanuts, for you it might be almonds or
something... Try just eating tuna and mayo or some other canned fish and
mayo... you may be not getting enough fat... The atkins bars are ok but...
maybe try to keep them for emergencies and stick to "real food"

As for exercise... do you have a walkman or mp3 player?? I find I really go
for the gusto if I have music, if not I am slugging along thinking about my
life and not enjoying myself at all.......

also take a break and quit weighting and measuring!!!! try to just go meal
by meal and exercise by exercise, and congratulate yourself for having
"clean days" and add those up instead of pounds, then by the end of a couple
    weeks

I want to thank you all for the help. I've set myself up for a fitday
account and I hope to be able to provide better information next time I
    post.

I will try to follow what you all say, but collectively I think you've
said every possible answer :-). Eat more, eat less, eat the same and hold
to the path. Hopefully once I get my fitday stuff up and running for a
bit I'll clear it up that I'm not a 90 pound anorexic. Honest.

Green tea doesn't taste very good to me, but I do have a supplement of
green tea I was hoping would help. I don't like One-a-day because they
don't provide as much as centrum, but I do take a seperate biotin to help
    out.

I will try to exercise more, but I am not real fond of it.

Thanks for all the help guys. :-)

  19. Hi guys.

Just checking in to let you know that yes, I am doing better. Thank you all
for your inspiration and advice. I got fitday pc (it seemed better than
updating both the atkins site and the fitday site, and I can use it
offline), and started to go easier on myself on carbs, moving them up a bit.
(I even had some cherry pie on thanksgiving, woot!)

I'm still not having citric acid and it appears to help, I've lost 2 lbs
since my first post, so I'm doing something right. I thought about it the
other day and the first time I did Atkins I stalled too, which is why I got
off. I was sucking down diet coke like crazy then, so it was probably the
    citric acid then too.

I'm still exercising and finding it's getting easier and I'm finding myself
actually wanting to go to the gym, which is rare, hehe. I am increasing my
difficulty level slowly, and finding the accomplishment satisfying. :-)

Thanks again guys for talking sense into me.

Some people have difficulty losing weight with the aspartame in the diet
colas. Have you tried eliminating that?

Do you have an exercise ball? One of those huge ones? You could do some
exercises on it while watching TV, and that helps you to do something
    instead of just sitting passively.
