Ive been having a headache almost every day since I started LCing.
Usually starts in the afternoon, 3 or 4 o'clock. Not a real bangeroo or
anything...just a low-grade headache, in the temples.
What's up with that? Anybody else?

Have you been outside in the sun a lot or sweating. I get mild forehead
area dull headaches when I am a bit dehydrated. Could you be
dehydrated? Also before surgery when I was a bit hypoglycemic I got a
headache, and when I needed to eat I was having them. Are you eating
enough? Are you eating some carbs or are your carb counts too low? Are
you drinking enough water? Could it be related to TOM with hormones??

Likely dehydration.
Try upping your fluid intake (not caffeinated) and I'll bet they go away.

Did you suddenly cut out a source of caffeine? Caffeine withdrawal can
give you headaches that make you think you're going to DIE, which I why
I always recommend SLOWLY weaning off of things like coffee, rather than
going cold turkey.
True story: I used to get together every weekend with my former
boyfriend (he was a CURRENT boyfriend at the time). At some point I
started getting MASSIVE headaches whenever we were together. I couldn't
understand it -- was I allergic to him? Was it psychological? How
could that be? I LOVED him! The headaches were downright
incapacitating, though! Turns out I had gotten into the habit of having
a single cup of coffee every day when I got to work, just to help perk
me up for the day. After that, I drank herbal tea. On the weekends I
only drank herbal tea. Turns out that every weekend, with no coffee, I
would go into caffeine withdrawal, even though I only had ONE cup a day
M-F. Yes, some of us ARE that sensitive to things like that.

I had a constant headache for the first several months of LC. I've
suffered from headaches my entire adult life so just put up with it, but
this was different than anything I'd experienced before so I know it was
tied to LC.
When I started to increase my carbs as I moved into maintenance, it started
to lessen. It stopped when I got to 45g net carbs/day (I'm at 65g net/day
now). I haven't had ANY headaches since then and that was about a year
ago. Another wonderful benefit of LC!

I always get real bad headaches when I give up caffeine. At first I was
confusing it with eliminating carbs but later found that cutting the coffee
was doing it. When I switch to decaf now I do it gradually.

Laureen--hmmm. well, actually...I have been kinda slacking up some on
the water... and...maybe my carb count is too low. I got tired of
sticking at 188 after about five weeks and dropped back down from 40 to
20 gms.
I have been out in the heat/sun some the last few days, working on a
landscaping project....but the headaches came before that.
Damn...I hate to go back up on my carbs! I wasnt going to weigh until
the end of this month, but went ahead and weighed this morning and am
now 185, a loss od 4 1/2 lbs in a week (after five or so weeks at 40 gms
a day, stuck at 188). Damn, damn, damn. See why I dont wanna up my
carbs? It seems like I HAVE to be around 20 to lose! At 40, I was
maintaining but not losing. The thing is, tho, I was having sme
headaches, tho not as frequently, even at 40!
Maybe I should go back to 40 and just deal with the fact that Im a real
slow loser? LOL, let me re-phrase that! I mean...one who loses weight
slowly!
It's just that I really wanted to GET 20 LBS OFF! Then...I wouldnt mind
slowing down to even 3 or 4 lbs a month.
sigh. Well 17 is close to 20....maybe I'm pushing it too hard. The
headaches do kinda worry me--I know my body is trying to tell me
something.
Anyway, thanks---what you said makes sense. I'll do 30 gms for a week
and see what happens. If that doesnt help, I'll go back up to 40.
What's funny is, yesterday I was working outside and got REAL hungry,
but I didnt want to stop what I was doing...so worked for maybe another
hour. Then I got SO hungry, I felt weak and dizzy and weird. I came in
the house and opened the cabinet and saw a package of that quick
stuffing mix? The five minute kind? I was...possessed. I
mean....nothing in the world could have stopped me from making that
stuffing, barely waited the five minutes and gobbled about half of it
right from the pot. I couldnt NOT eat it. Pure white bread, for god's
sake....and I felt like Id kill anybody who tried to take it away from
me!
I would have to say, looking back, my first mistake was letting myself
get that hungry. Second was, of course, not having given away that damn
stuffing mix weeks ago. The point is, tho, my body was calling (well,
screaming) for some CARBS.
The headache and dizziness and spaced-out feeling did go away. But, I
also took two aspirin, so that coukld have made the headache go away.
That whole event does sound like hypoglycemia, tho, doesnt it? The weird
spaced-out, unreal feeling and the psycho-desperation for the stuffing?
damn, damn, damn.
The other thing worth mentioning is, when Im having the headache and
it's meal time, and I eat my LC meal, the headache does not go away. Ive
been taking 400 mg of Ibuprophen just about every day, now, for two or
three weeks. That cant be a good sign. I was having the headaches when
I was eating 40 gms of carb daily, dropped back to 20 the past week and
still had the headaches. Jeeeez. Does this mean I need even more than
40 gms??
I feel like Im between a rock and a hard place, you know? It just
depressed the [censored] outa me to see that scale say the same damn thing
week after week!
Color me bummed.

Saffire---well...I have a giant cup of cffee in the morning, as I have
for many years. Then, I drink iced tea, maybe three 16 oz. glasses,
again, as I have done for years.
I was being careful to also make sure I got at least three 16 oz.
glasses of water when I first started LCing, but Ive kind of slacked up
on that.
So....I guess Im having too much caffeine, if anything, and not enough
water. I 'll start being vigilant about my water again, and have it
instead of so much tea. Maybe too much caffeine is the culprit.
Thanks--
