Did You Ride Today?

Holy Yowamushi Pedal Marathon! I'm now caught up to the yet to be released Episode 10! Great graphics! Watching the animated bike computer numbers change during the workout? Awesome detail! The bike brand names are even funnier this series! I have to say though that the new music sucks. Even the reworked version of Last Gasp's "Determination" was lame. Needs more uptempo rock and pop IMO. Miss the old Opening and closing songs!

Again, predictible plots so far...the next gen kicks ass on the leaving third years. The sprint race that M won was kind of neat. Sets up the newest team player, all-rounder for Sohoku.

Still think Makishima is the coolest character. Kinju needed to to represented more as he also strikes me as a great rider and a good person.

And I did spot a Wilier bike in the mix, but I never got a good shot at the fake name!

Thanks for the reminder it was in production, U! I'll watch the rest of the released episodes for sure. I D-loaded in 1080p and the graphics just blew me away...much better detail that watching on Crunchyroll or YouTube. Can't wait to get to the next Inter High! I think Sohoku will repeat...we'll see.

It was 55 degrees today, but more rain all day so I went for Long Steady Distance on the trainer and sat my bored ass on it for 67 minutes. It hurt and was good workout, but the session was notable for nothing other than its extended length.

length.

Its hard to find, but they made a prequel called Yowamushi Pedal Spare Bike. It shows what the characters were up to before the year of the inter-high. The first one released was about how Makashima and his rival developed there cycling style. I think Kinjou and the rest will get there own as well.

A short clip in Japanese, I downloaded and watched it months back

Yes, the new music, especially the themes are subpar. I think they are saving the best stuff for the better races to come. The new characters seem interesting and it will be interesting to see the old ones grow. That tall guy has a little bit of Makashima style in him. The animation does look great, I think Onada's riding an Slr01?

I watched Spare Bike over the Summer...needed my fix!

Definitely, the new characters will bring new interest to the series.

I was on a few teams over the years and it's fun to spot the characteristics of some of my old team mates among the animation characters.

No clue what model BMC Onoda is riding. There's probably enough detail there to do a frame grab and figure it out though. I would like to see hoe Toho animates these videos. The detail level is such that it has to be computer generated as opposed to completely hand drawn as in the 'old' days.

Can a 22-mile ride be 'epic'?

It was only 22 miles in length and the temperature was a nice, sunny 55 degrees.

However, the wind was 25 to 31 MPH steady with gusts over 51 MPH. One was recorded at 56 MPH! Talk about your insane headwinds!

In a cross wind the bike was all over the place. the 33 MM tall rims were a challenge to control and taking a hand off the bars to blow a snot rocket was risky. I rode most of the ride with a rookie death grip on either the hoods or the drops.

I averaged a whopping 15 MPH and that was aided by 7 miles of screaming tailwinds pushing me along at an easy 20-25 MPH.

I climbed 1250' and some of it was steep stuff. I hit the hills to try and stay out of the wind, but that didn't work.

The road was littered with everything from 1/4" sticks to 6" diameter branches! 160,000 people were without power this afternoon as trees and lines came down in the strong winds.

27 Miles in nice 53 degree air! The wind was decent at 9 to 12 MPH. A Hell of a lot less than yesterday! I went out with dead legs and a high heart rate, so not completely shot.

1350' of climbing so only a rolling course with one climb that tested my powerless legs. The cleanup of fallen trees is still ongoing as road crews cut up the big pieces and get them out of the right of way.

I woke up to 3" to 4" of fresh snow and the temperature at 32 degrees and dropping (currently 25 degrees). The wind is going 17 to 22 MPH with higher gusts. Bummer.

I hit the trainer for 46 minutes worth of medium tempo work with two long high Watt runs.

We're in for a low of 13 degrees tonight and 13 degrees tomorrow night and 14 degrees on Sunday night! ****.

26 degrees today in Ohio and although the sun is shining the roads are fouled with drifting snow, snow melt water, a few icy patches, lots of salt and tons of fresh cinders and grit. No thanks!

38 minutes on the trainer after a short warm up and it was a hammerfest. Sucks to be me. The legs are still shaking from the effort. Fun!

I'm strapping on a pistol and taking a walk through the woods. All the snow is down off the trees, but it's still sunny and beautiful on the deer trails.

It snowed this week and we are expecting a foot on Tuesday. Another week of no outdoor riding. I'll get a quick Zwift session in at some point today. In better news, if all goes well, I will be getting a new 2016 BMC TMR02 105 for 1,700 this week. I will set that one up for my short/fast rides and put a mid-compact crank on the synapse at some point for lazy, unfit or climb a cliff days. if all goes well...

We have a Nor'easter coming in Tuesday, and today was 21 degrees with a biting wind. I hate getting on the trainer this time of year but I can handle the cold for a short period of time. It was off to play in the woods for an hour and a half and a fun workout.

Nice! I hope you like the BMC, U. The 105 stuff on my Emonda is actually pretty decent. Shifts well, is holding up just fine to two Winter seasons.

Damn! It was a cold ride today! I woke up to 18 degrees and light snow flurries. The sun came out and the flurries slowed down to just a few flakes here and there. As the temperature hit 23 degrees I put a leg over and shoved off in my Flandrian best.

The wind was a steady 10 to 12 MPH and I headed into it. 17 miles was all I rode and that was plenty. Just a medium tempo ride with 600' of climbing. My balaclava froze to my moustache...yeah, that sucked.

The forecast calls for 1" to 3" of snow tomorrow and 3" to 5" on Tuesday. Let's hope the weatherman is wrong! I'm sick and tired of the trainer.

Nice ride, Zipp!

We have more snow cover than you. Our woods have 1" to maybe 3" on the forest floor. Our road are pretty clear and I only had to ride around one spot today where the wind had blown the snow out onto the road.

Nice shot of the river and...was that a dam?

Thanks Campybob ! That is a dam that's in the middle of the woods and is a great area to ride. Our roads still have tons of dirt, and they salted the other day so they are white as can be. They are projecting 12 - 18 inches of snow starting early Tuesday into Wednesday night so I guess the trainer isn't done yet.

Looks like you have been able to get out quite a bit this season ? I'm going to way off on road miles for March if the temps stay this cold, and now more snow.

It's been a decent Winter for outdoor riding here. Maybe a bit less riding days than last year, but still a very mild Winter.

I can still take the cold weather for a couple hours or so, but I got sick of detail cleaning bikes after every ride a long time ago!

The weather 'scare guys' are all over the TV and radio this morning trying to freak people out. We may get as little as 3" total and maybe 6"-8". No one really knows, but they'll make damned sure that the 'fraidy cats are good and panic'ed. I ain't skerred...just bummed about having to fry my legs on the trainer for another week.

If I can sky out early today i might be able to sneak in one last ride before snowmageddon!

I got to sneak in one last ride before Snowmageddon!

It only got up to 31 degrees this afternoon, but it felt much warmer than yesterday's 24 degrees. The wind was about the same, 8 to 13 MPH, yet it felt easier.

I blasted out a quick 16 miles and did an easy 475' of very easy rolling terrain. Looks like the next 3 or 4 days will be trainer Hell.

We hit a high of 19 degrees today as the Nor'Easter started to build some wind. There was an inch of new snow before dawn and maybe another inch during the day...dodged a bullet so far. The wind really picked up this afternoon and is running a steady 17 to 22 MPH with gusts over 35 MPH.

I hit the trainer for 45 minutes. The first 15 minutes were spent getting up to speed and then I just kept it in the red all the way home. 57% of the workout at near max heart rate zone. I just buried the needle and kept it red lined. It felt good and the legs didn't start to seize up until the 2 minutes to go mark.

More snow tonight and tomorrow. How much is anyone's guess. The weather scare guys are off the mark so far. Even the snow belt and lake-effect areas got lucky so far. It's still cold as all get out and the wind chill is just brutal.

I wonder how Maydog is doing up North?

It got up to 25 degrees today with the sun out and the wind driving the snow around at 21 to 23 MPH. Gusts were running 31 to 25 MPH again! Some snow was melting on the roads and a lot was blown across the roads. I didn't even try to go outside to ride. Too sloppy.

I hit the trainer for a killer 45-minute session. Hit the gas from the get-go and did a bunch of light jumps and short intervals. I finished up tired and feeling good about the effort. The hot shower afterwards felt great!

I'm thinking about hitting a Zwift group ride around 430 today. Too cold in EDPA as well for any outdoor fun.

It got up to 35 degrees today with sunshine. Once, again, the wind was up at a steady 16-17 MPH with gusts into the mid-20 MPH range.

I put the new saddle on the Ribble yesterday and took it out for a test ride this afternoon. It was only 16 miles, but the saddle felt good and the ride was fun.

The roads still had some wet spots and snow on them, but probably 75% of the snow we got over the last two days had melted.

More snow and a freezing mix of rain and ice is on tap for tomorrow. Yay...

I forgot to add:

The new saddle is a Selle Italia 'Flite' model. The Flite has been my 'go to' saddle for many years. It's always fit me well, been comfy and plenty light weight enough. I've ridden a couple generations of the Flite and this one is 'flatter' on the wings than any I've had in the past.

It's almost as flat as my Selle Italia SLR, but not as flat as the Selle Italia X1 X-Cross.

The Flite is 146 MM wide The SLR is 131 MM wide. The X1 is 135 MM wide.

The nose is a bit wider than the SLR.
