They could have been service personnel. If you take a look at the area around some of the American bases like Lakenheath or Mildenhall, the local towns & villages are teeming with yank tanks.

Would they still bring LHD cars over though? Maybe they do. I would obviously expect more specialised vehicles to be brought over, but this looked like a standard estate car.

Oh, most definitely! I think that the general consensus is that the British cars are too small. They wouldn't be able to drive most of them anyway as the majority of Americans have not been taught how to drive with a manual gearbox. On the bases, they can get anything that they would be able to in the States. Apart from a few who are prepared to live a bit like the locals, they like to live just like they would back home.

further up the thread could well be right, also maybe emulating some of the skate/bmx and such videos.

also i guess what they "think" they will want. around my folks place people moving in normal first move is to get a big 4x4 as its hills and lanes, after a while they relise the one flaw in this plan, the narrow lanes make threading a wide car intresting, and revesing it back into a bay with out scraching the paint job just as fun. so a smaller car is selected next time around.

The old Renualt 4 was a great car for living in the country, it was tough, the narrow tyres cut thru mud or snow and if it got stuck a couple of big lads could pick it up.

heh, cars are for a large part are about image. after all new cars are hardly cost effective.
