Head cams flipping rule. There is no way the driver could not have
known the cyclist was there.

He had previously been prevented from overtaking the cyclist by the
central refuge, and was going to overtake no matter what - mini road-
rage anyone?

I've had that. On London Bridge a bus driver in a bendy overtook and
squished me against the railings. "You must have known I was there
when you overtook!" I said to him. "Well" he said "You overtook me!"

"What", I said "So that was revenge?"

He shrugged.

Those helmet cams can be set up for around £100, I can guaranteed that
on almost every commute I would record an idiot driver doing something
breath-takingly dumbass.

Really? Can you let me know how? I've not got a camcorder, so can't see how
I can set up a system for £100. I do have a Canon camera which does video,
but only a few minutes at a time .... I would like to do some sort of time
lapse photography. Don't really want to carry a laptop around with me!

Really? Can you let me know how? I've not got a camcorder, so can't see how

Me too, latest craze is using the right turn only lane on a roundabout
to overtake me (in the left/straight ahead lane) then cutting in front
of me to go straight on. Not quite as close a shave as with that bus
though.

No, as Danny said, no excuse for the bus driver. But it makes sense to
make it as easy as possible for drivers to make the right decisions,
because then they are more likely to do so, and your journey is safer
and more pleasant.

In the absence of serious book-throwing at dangerous drivers, that's
the best we can do.

Since more voters drive motor vehicles than ride bicycles
such assaults are ignored by the criminal justice system.

Motorists actually do have the right to assault
non motorists as long as the weapon used
is a motor vehicle.

I travel on busses in London every day and
I would estimate that in the rush hour when
there are plenty cyclists about the assault rate is about
one every mile or two per bus. The behaviour is designed
to injure you such that you stop cycling and is what
the vorers have voted for. Or at least this is apparently
the belief of the police.

Is there any possibility of a small claims court
claim for damages due to the assault being
successful with such video evidence? Clearly
there was no physical damage but there was certainly
a threat of imminent death. Hitting uncle ken in the
pocket is the only way to get his attention.
