  1. tricep kickbacks with a nine lb weight will target the tricep pretty
quick, but usually arm flab isnt made of a loose muscle just hanging
there. It's that last deposit of fat and stretched out skin. You can
tighten and tone or increase the mass of the tricep, but only
liposuction and the removal of the excess skin can remove ALL the droop.

Im planning on using mine as wings. I think I could glide a mile or
    more.

Yep. "Spot reduction" only happens in a plastic surgeon's office.

I tend to believe the contention that there is no such thing as spot
reducing. Just because a muscle is near a lump of fat does not mean the
body will use that particular fat to refuel itself.

I thought you wanted to tone the triceps? When you want to work on a
particular muscle, do an exercise that targets THAT muscle. You dont
need to employ the other muscles of the chest and back to tone the
    triceps.

Put your left hand and left knee on a bench. Hold a nine pound weight in
your right hand, by your side. Keeping the elbow at your side, "kick
back" the weight. You will feel it immediately. Do as many reps as you
can and work up to three sets of 10.. Then change sides and repeat with
    the other arm.

I thought you have a trainer?

You can train triceps just fine with compound movements like presses & dips,
and such (pushing motions). In fact, many claim those movements work better
than isolation movements as muscles tend to work in groups, anyway.

The advice to do tricep specific training to tone the back of the arms is
potential bad advice. If the person doing the movement doesn't manage do
lose fat, but instead gains muscle mass, then the arms could end up getting
bigger, as the larger muscle sits under a layer of fat. I think most women
would find that objectionable, as would some guys.

My advice is simply to adopt a fully-body routine that trains all muscle
groups (it doesn't have to include isolation movements if the appropriate
compound movements are there) and then to focus on eating below maintenance
(i.e., LCing), so as to lose bodyfat while keeping/gaining muscle. Cardio
will help. At the very least, put all isolation movements at the end of
your routine as they tend to be for smaller muscles and have little impact
on boosting metabolism (afterburn) and buring calories (ie, they tend to not
help as much with weight loss as compound movements do) during the workout.

In short, there really isn't any need to focus specifically on triceps for
the purpose of improving the look of the back of the arms.

  7. Right, Roger....if you hate your flabby arms, work your chest and back.
Maybe the arms will get a little, too, if only by accident.

Aerobics will burn fat, wherever it is.

Targeting a specific muscle to tone it just simply works best. That's
why they call it, "body sculpting", Roger----changing specific muscles
to be the way we want them to be. And, without much testosterone, women
dont build much in the way of muscle mass. Models often work their tris
and avoid working bi's to keep a 'thin" arm with a noticable cut above
the triceps, for shape. Ever notice Goldie Hawn's beautiful arms? No
    trace of bicep---well defined tris.
For sculpting, targeting specific muscles is everything.

not unless you actually want to solve the flabby arm problem.

Roger actually raises a very cogent point, specifically, that spot
reduction rarely occurs. You can build the muscle, but unless the fat
goes away, it's just going to make the arm bigger. Goldie's arms (or
Angela Bassett's) for that matter have very low fat content, as do the
    rest of their bodies.

I do think that isolation will build this faster than a compaoun
movement that doesn't really use the tripcep (ala pushups) and I think
if we are talking about a belly being in the way for pushups, dips are
probably going to be too much load (MMV though). But without the cardio
or diet, it's just going to be a muscular but flabby arm (currently
    working on this problem myself).

Hollywood, who thinks diet, cardio, and triceps raises and french
presses will solve the problem over time.

I believe you can firm up this area with your LT weightloss goals and
some exercise, but I don't think there is even a "hard workout magic
    bullet" for you.

Last note: I do French Press and One Arm Triceps Extension as part of
my workout to work this group. Two really targeted exercises should
build it in a way that you want, if you do it assiduously.

Real last note: I think pushups, while good for you, are not a good
choice here, unless, as noted, you do them with a difficulty enhancing
    modification (hands very close).

Thanks much to you and all the others who gave
good suggestions. I should clarify that I know
spot reducing isn't possible, but was looking for
something to work that area along with the rest of
    my workout.

tisk, tisk. Can you work your chest/back without using your arms? Most
movements for those muscle groups involve arms.

Obviously, you're never done any serious training.

flab = fat, not lack of muscle.

And what does that do for the fat - nothing. The problem is the wings, not
    so much the muscles.

Which is why working on the fat makes the most sense.

The tris are the bigger muscle group, so building them will make the arms
    appear bigger.

:> For sculpting, targeting specific muscles is everything.

This is not about sculpting, it's about losing fat. Her tris and bis will
get plenty of work without any special effort.

Some gyms have assisted dip machines. Or, one can do dips between twos
with the feet on the floor.. Or on some stairs...

Isolation movements are best left to the pros, who need to get every
little bit of gain possible. Normal folks don't really need them.
Isolation movements are good for rehab, though.
