Adjustable cranks

I don't feel like adjusting cranks during a ride. It would be cool
however to have cranks that can slide in and out for a cross country
Unicycle that doesn't have to be especialy strong.

My creative process is apearantly a little different than that of other
folks on this forum. Instead of making drawings and CAD images I just
go out to the shop, start cutting and welding iron together untill I
get something that works (often times something that doesn't)

looking at this CAD image it is hard to believe that I came up with
such a similar idea independently.

But in fact I had done several searches of threads in this forum
looking for what if anything people had done in the past and found
nothing that looked very practical other than the Kookas with extra
holes drilled in them.
And this $450.00 set that adjust with set screws.

Al, your cranks are GENIOUS. Do you cut your own square tapers, or do
you use pieces of existing cranks?

I have been cutting the square taper off of steel cranks and then
turning them down on the lathe untill the outside is cylindrical. My
shop is now full of crankless unis.

The set I am sending to you are made of round steel tubing, the set on
my R360 in the pic are made with square tubing.

I didn't vote as the choices are not meaningful. I would love to have
adjustable cranks that don't suck. That is, while adjustable, they can
still hold up to the rigors of unicycling. For MUni that would mean
lots of hopping. For Cokering/road riding, the hops aren't necessary
but it would still mean strong cranking in both directions.

I don't consider cranks with multiple holes to be "adjustable" but
they're certainly better than nothing! Yes I'd like to try some of
those someday. They would have been handy on that Tahoe ride...

Holding one of Al's cranks in my hands, it looks very strong. I think
the square taper would fail before the adjustment mechanism. Other than
being a little heavy, these cranks seem like an excellent usable
design. Al, I think you're onto something marketable that the community
could really benefit from.
