85 degrees F and 90% humidity this AM when I arrived at the trailhead for
the Saturday morning group ride. As we all got ready to go, I realized I'd
grabbed a mismatched set of gloves from the stack on top of the parts bin in
the garage. The lefty was mine, and the righty was from a pair used by my 9
year old son. Needless to say, it didn't fit. None of the other guys had
spares. Damn! "What the hell," I thought, "how bad can it be without
gloves." I found out soon enough.
High humidity, no gloves, and gripshifts is a pretty crappy combination.
Brake leverage and steering weren't all that optimized either. I did one
loop and headed for home. Bummer ride day. Oh well, that's one of those
mistakes you only make once.
