exactly - for me gloves are for the eventual digger
One of the few times I forgot my gloves was on a ride during a business trip. It can be tricky remembering all the little stuff to pack up. It was a bad place to forget them - South Mountain, near Phoenix. Did a nice washout just afer suffering through the climb up Mormon, and spent the next couple of days in meetings with bandaged hands.
After awhile, the continuous "what happened? questions become more bothersome than the pain.
That trail claims my blood every time I ride it, almost, so don't feel bad. Once in a while I get lucky and I clean everything... or maybe I'll feel wussy one day and skip a section to save my hide.
If the weather is warm I usually ride gloveless. I actually prefer the feel- when I buy gloves, I always choose the ones that have the thinnest possible palms.
miles
Try the "Raji" glove by 661. Super thin palm and thin mesh upper. Good for riding in hot weather.

The day I bought my first mountain bike, I decided I didn't need to go inside to get my gloves before practicing clipping out. "I'm in the driveway," I reasoned, "What could possibly go wrong?"
Driveway? Should have practiced on the grass.
That statement assumes that there was grass anywhere nearby. There wasn't.
Well then you probably should have found some, dontcha think?
