  1. Results to date: 3.5 pounds lost.

I do my official weigh in on Sunday in hopes of somehow
detering myself from overdoing it on the food Friday and
Saturday. I don't know how well that has been working. We
went out to dinner yesterday and I had too much sodium in my
diet. I'm thirsty as heck this morning and I'm almost done
with liter of water #2. I'm down from last week's sodium
escapade so there may have been a loss somewhere in there,
but it is currently masked from going out to dinner last
night. Eh. Who knew it would take this long to lose 5
    stinkin' pounds?

I found something rather interesting this week. I notice
that I do really well until I come up on a certain number
(usually found on my lowest weight day) and then I start
eating out at lunch and making poorer choices during the
week. I think I will be reducing the number of times I
weight a week, because I am completely getting in my own way
when I do. We'll see how that experiment goes.

I've been convincing myself that I should go to the gym for
quite some time and that I would start on a Saturday so that
if I do screw up, I won't beat myself up for it too much.
Well for the past few weeks I've been excusing myself by
saying, "It's too cold to go". Yesterday was an icky day,
but I managed to convince myself to go to the gym. I'm
pleased with myself. I didn't go overboard on anything, just
general movement that I needed to do. The trick is to get
myself to do that again today.

On a different note-kinda. I find it so hard to focus on
myself when there is all this work around the house that
needs to be accomplished. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The simple fact is - you are just as important as anything
else on your to do list. I have no idea what you're life is
like so I can't give specific advice but you should devote
some time to yourself everyday. If you're really nervous
about not having any time, just devote 15 minutes. You can
use this time to organize yourself for the rest of the day
(or to prepare for the next day), to take a walk with your
favorite music (especially if you have a household that
requires you to leave to get some peace), make a habit of
going someplace for a cup of tea every day and turn your
    cell phone off.

If you work outside of the home, you might want to do this
on your way home - unwind from the demands of work and and
get your time to yourself before the demands of home attack
you. If you work inside the home maybe you can exchange
babysitting moments with your neighbor where you each give
each other a half hour of babysitting time (one right after
the other) to give you time to go for that walk. Not to
mention, if someone else is involved, you will be held to a
    schedule, accountable to someone else.

The better you are to yourself, the better you can be to
others. You can't offer others what you don't have. Those
dishes aren't going to be any dirtier in a half hour and
that report isn't going to be any less written if you don't
do it right this minute. But if you take the time to
yourself, you'll be able to do these things with much more
energy and you'll find you don't actually need that 15
minutes you used for your walk to get something else done.

I used to be a total and complete gym rat, and then I
realized I hated it. Love yoga, but don't have the hour and
a half every day to devote to it. Really made a difference
though when I was going it with some regularity.

Re the gym: the deal I make with myself is this: half an
hour. I go 6 days a week and do half an hour on either the
treadmill or the elliptical trainer. (Hate the bike and
stair climber). Invested in an iPod. I can do ANYTHING for
half an hour - at least that's what I keep telling myself.
So far so good. I don't know if I've lost weight (just
started WW) but I don't have guilt about it.

And will someone please remind me of this in 3 months when I
    say I'm bored?

    thanks...lo

  6. Congratulations Julie on your total loss to date. You might
be losing more slowly than you'd like but you're sure
learning lots along the way. And you ARE losing.

I weigh in on Saturday mornings because I tend to be a bit
looser with points on the weekend. Giving myself permission
to do that allows me the opportunity to be spontaneous with
friends and family and I never feel deprived. I could never
be so disciplined as to be perfectly on point every day. The
more "rules" I set for myself, the more some other part of
me seems determined to break them. Yet my weight losses keep
mounting, I think, in part because I do allow myself the
freedom to live my life the way I live it.

  8. I'll try to remind you. :-)

I went the gym today after all. I'm hurting a little. I did
20 minutes on the treadmill, but then did squats.
Fortunately, I didn't overdo it like I tend to. I could
actually still walk when I got home and although I'm a
little sore (tomorrow will really suck), I'm a lot less
stressed out that I would have otherwise been. That, right
there, is reason enough for me to go to the gym.

Tonight we had sushi. We also got the plates that we've been
drooling over for the last year or so at the Japanese
market. Check out dinner at our house on:
    jcatena.netsushi

I love to cook and present, dh loves to take pictures and he
couldn't resist pulling out the camera and posting dinner.
(Plus, I had to show the pattern to my friends who know I've
been drooling over it for a while.)

I'm very hard on myself and I"m trying to break that. At
this point, I want to see those minus 5 pounds. I'll be at a
weight I haven't been in about a year or so. Then once I get
to 10% lost, I'll have reached a weight that I had already
been to about 3 years ago. I've been feeling bad about
letting myself gain the weight back, however I'm also really
glad I didn't gain more if that makes sense.

  12. now I can help with the laundry, I got those Rubbermaid buckets, except a
trash can for the whites, all towels are white. DH sorted it for me, each
bucket has an assigned place. I do a load when there is enough to do. that
way it is never done but it never piles up. Also if you are behind, don't
try and do IT ALL today, do one load from presoak and shout to hung up and
put away, don't start a second one until you have the first one done, that
way you don't feel the pressure of things sitting in the washer or dryer and
ruining. I know this sounds counter productive but it works. Now once you
get that first load in, sit down and do your grocery list or your menu. You
could also exercise while they are drying, [censored]!!! time for you and some

  13. I guess how you tackle the laundry depends on just how much
you have to do. I will say that laundry for 4 people ... 2
of which are construction workers who live to play in the
mud (boy did they have fun this past week) and 1 is a
teenage girl (need I say more) ... is much different than
doing laundry for 2 adults. If I did laundry one load at a
time, start to finish before starting another one, I would
never even make a dent in the mountain. <g> I am a self-
professed laundry queen. There are days (hell, there are
months) that I swear this is all I do in life. This week has
been one of those weeks. Yesterday I had to push 40 trips up
and down the basement - everytime I thought I was done, more
mystically appeared at the bottom of the stairs. The *boys*
clothing had to go through the machine twice - and I'm still
not sure all the mud is out. LOL

I went out last year and bought three of those metal type
laundry sorters. Each one is divided into 3 sections ...
and I have an additional single hamper for towels. Our
towels aren't the same color, but they're old enough that
they can get tossed into the same loads anyway ... funny
how after a few years they no longer run or shed. <G>
Anyway, I sort laundry everyday - usually when I head down
to the scale and/or treadmill. I start a load up before I
    hit the treadmill
    - whichever bin is the fullest. About 40 minutes later I'm
done walking, the load is ready to go into the dryer. If
nothing else, at least one load of wash gets done each day
    - and it makes life a bit easier for me these days. I did
officially no laundry at all today (YEAH!!!!!!) - tomorrow
will be dedicated to getting my mom's laundry done ...
deliver to her on Tuesday or Wednesday, just in time to
    pick up another batch. <sigh>

  14. OOOHHH, I only suggested this method as a way to not be overwhelmed, With
the two of us I do a huge amount of laundry but, I change alot and so does
DH, I also only use towels once so there is a great deal of whites. We have
all whites as I thought once I had it sorted correctly and bleached a
colored towel, DH had pink underwear for a bit which did NOT make him any
too happy. I figured that if they were all white we wouldn't have that
issue again. I actually have a system where I do a load or so a day but the
next one goes in as soon as it is ready and if we travel the first thing
after getting back and unpacked I do laundry until it is totally caught up.

  15. Laundry and traveling is the pits, glad I don't travel
often. Guess it's another one of those obsessive/compulsive
things with me. I have to have ALL the laundry done before I
can walk out the door - which usually means pulling an all
nighter to accomplish this feat. I pack garbage bags in the
suitcases - and all dirty clothing is tossed in the garbage
bags. Repacking to come home, all dirty clothes are combined
into one or two suitcases (depends on how many of us are
gone, and for how long) and when we return home those cases
are taken directly to the basement. It sounds wierd, but it
really does make my life easier and less complicated. And
like you, I have to do all the dirty clothing right away
when I get back home, so having to not chase everyone to get
    it really does help me.

This week-end's rampage was only due to getting daughter out
the door for her spring trip to FL with a friends family.
I've just received two phone calls from her ... just hung up
now. 2:15 am and they finally have reached their hotel, got
sorted into rooms after finding out their reservations were
messed up and rooms too small ... this after being delayed
for takeoff at the airport for over an hour (we had some
nasty storms roll through late afternoon/early evening). The
poor mom who has taken all these kids has got to be a basket
    case right about now.

  16. Glad DD got there safe, storms were bad here as well.

Part of the reason I do it this way now is because I used to
freak if every thread wasn't clean. I mean it was really an
issue. I finally figured out that I could obsessive on
perfect hanging/folding rather than on ALL done and I get
less overwhelmed and less tired also. I now have as a goal
that it will all be done once a year after the annual linen
run. I am finding that obsessive behavior, cluttering
behavior and weight issues are connected and have also found
that when perfectionist tendencies are thrown in it is
difficult. I am learning very slowly that if I improve a
little at a time and don't fall back I do fine. I have
transferred the perfectionism to specific things and this
gives me something a little more healthy to focus on. I
thought long and hard about all of this, I am probably
borderline in these areas but I am also terrified of medical
situations so refuse to go and find out. Once I realized
action had to be taken I read, and read, and read... What I
read, learned and decided has helped me to improve in
    several areas.

And just one thing more and I will quit rambling, I haven't
beaten the over doing on the cleaning, I just scrubbed, by
hand, half of my 22.5 by 15 livingroom carpet with a small
scrubbrush, Lee, who earned 12 activity points today Joyce

  17. Can I go to your house for dinner?

I got a kick out of you posting the pictures of the dinner
plates, as I am a potter, and always look at the plates more
    than the food.

I don't want to go to they gym today (took yesterday off
after 3 days in a row) but I will go anyway.

  18. Laundry is a pain in this apartment-electric dryer so things
take twice as long to dry and I don't have the room to store
too many things. When I get a house there will be an in-
house sorting area (not just the floor near the
washer/dryer). I did most of the laundry last night, but the
underclothing, towels and sheets didn't make it to folding
    stage-least of my worries.

Most of my laundry last night was dry cleaning so I used the
    Dryel-1/2 hr a load and I was good to go-too bad it's only 4
    items a load.

There are assorted loads left to do, but the majority of the
clothing is done and now I don't have to go to work in my
    birthday suit. :-)

The simple fact is - you are just as important as
    anything else on

    your

    Quoted message said:

    to

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

do list. I have no idea what you're life is like so I
    can't give

    specific

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

advice but you should devote some time to yourself
    everyday. If

    you're

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

really nervous about not having any time, just devote
    15 minutes. You

    can

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

use this time to organize yourself for the rest of the
    day (or to

    prepare

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

for the next day), to take a walk with your favorite
    music (especially

    if

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

you have a household that requires you to leave to get
    some peace),

    make

    Quoted message said:

    a

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

habit of going someplace for a cup of tea every day
    and turn your cell

    phone

    Quoted message said:

    off.

If you work outside of the home, you might want to do
this on your way home - unwind from the demands of
work and and get your time to

    yourself

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

before the demands of home attack you. If you work
    inside the home

    maybe

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

you can exchange babysitting moments with your
    neighbor where you each

    give

    Quoted message said:

each other a half hour of babysitting time (one right
    after the other)

    to

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

give you time to go for that walk. Not to mention, if
someone else is involved, you will be held to a
    schedule, accountable to someone else.

The better you are to yourself, the better you can be
    to others. You

    can't

    Quoted message said:

offer others what you don't have. Those dishes aren't
going to be any dirtier in a half hour and that report
isn't going to be any less

    written

    Quoted message said:

    if

    Quoted message said:

you don't do it right this minute. But if you take the
    time to

    yourself,

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

you'll be able to do these things with much more
    energy and you'll

    find

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

    you

    Quoted message said:

don't actually need that 15 minutes you used for your
    walk to get

    something

    Quoted message said:

    else done.

  20. The best fix for hubby not being happy with pink underwear is having him do
