The Thread about Nothing....

Hah!

Welcome back. What's new?
Christ, where do I start?!? How long has it been even.

I've become a casual bikepacker, but thankfully not 'gravel' enough as I don't use drop bars, have a moustache or a Patagonia baseball cap.

Thats about the extent of my 'bikiness' these days.

*edit* Holy **** I just noticed I first joined this thing TWENTY years ago! Fark.

I just had a look and this thread started 18 years ago!

Still staggering along after all that time, whoda thunk?

Does one need a Patagonia baseball cap to be a bikepacker? Could one get away with an Icebreaker beanie?

I heard a Millennial say in a TED talk recently that they were at the beginning of the Internet....turns out this thread is almost older than they are haha!

In 200 words or less........well......stopped Thylacine in 2014.....been working on and off in design, sales in the hobby industry, and until recently working in AM (3D Printing). Got a few bikepacking parts in the pipeline, but for fun, I'm mostly tootling about on my adventure / ATB / bikepacking bike, and building replica sci-fi props.

How about you guys? Matagi, still got the 2-door STI??

Your bike crossed my mind when I bought one of these frames a few years ago. :) Taiwanese-made. Columbus Spirit. On special for about $820, including postage

Welcome back Thylacine, I’ve had a bit of a hiatus myself, tore my ACL in august, surgery 4 weeks ago, I’m already going up stairs well, down stairs….is a bit awkward but doable. Might get to knock some of the gut off this summer…

Damn man, how'd you manage that? The knee that is, not the gut 😁
Haven’t ridden much, too much food, lots of work and not enough fun.

Which, strangely enough led to me going for a good walk in the evenings before dinner. After one such dinner I stood up, the knee went crunch and I crashed back onto the chair. 8 weeks later the quack stuck in a new elastic band with a couple of thumb tacks and here we are.

It did rather put the skids under me buying a CX fixie, but maybe that’s not such a bad thing…..

Isn't getting old fun!

I had a crash early on in the year where I jammed the handlebars into my gut and damaged an artery. Got another MRI next month to see how its looking. I'm assuming because they're not in a hurry that it wasn't super serious.....or they're just overworked and can't be arsed, one or the other.

Have you had your repeat MRI yet?

Hee hee! There was a bit of aggro and bumping in this Footscray criterium.
Some people reckon it started because team tactics were being used, and it's apparently an unwritten rule at
Footscray (that used to be written) that team racing isn't allowed.

Is it just me, or are these guys pounding some serious power without getting off the saddle? The main guy is
Steve Flack (the camera switches)

Is it just me or aren't any of them capable of riding hard up on the wheel or reacting immediately when someone attacks?
