Even in my own head this sounds like a rookie question BUT I cant stop thinking about if it would work or not so just hear me out and dont give me any [censored] for it....please 😄
The jersey/bib kits I get are not genuine team kits cuz I dont want to spend the $300+ on them, but I like the way they look. So I get the Ebay knock offs which are usually around $75 or cheaper even for the bib shorts and jersey. These kits work just fine and do what I need them to do..Kind of..but I find that the chamois isn't as think or dense as the quality shorts. Sometimes if I go on a long ride I will where 2 bib shorts which I know is kind of frowned upon but it helps for a while until about 60 miles where the friction between both materials start to give me pretty bad sores. So I tried on my next long ride to do it with just one pair of shorts since I am on a much more comfortable saddle since last month. It was better with the saddle but around 25 miles into my ride I felt the burning that I was feeling at around 60 miles when wearing 2 shorts..... which is where my question comes into play.
I have 2 bib shorts from previous kits I purchased that are all sorts of ripped and so I dont use them and they just sit in my closet. I was thinking about what if I had the chamois taken out of my ripped ones and sewn into ON TOP of the chamois giving me 2 chamois's sewn together meaning they wont slide around creating friction and would give me more padding without having to wear 2 shorts.
I know I know I know what you may be thinking...just go get a nice pair of shorts!! I KNOW 🙂 but they wouldn't match as a "team kit" which is what I like to wear.
I have had 2 proffesional bike fittings, a new saddle that is much more comfortable but I am still in the adjusting here and there stage.
