An email just came in from the Massbike list. It's hard to know what
    to
    say:

"Sheldon's wife Harriet sent out mail this morning saying that Sheldon
    Brown

I'm shocked and saddened to hear this news. I knew Sheldon had MS but not
    any heart problems.

He was a legend - with easily the best cycling website ever, and one of the
best websites ever, full stop! He will never be forgotten for as long as
the internet remains - which is bound to be forever!

Best wishes to his family at this most difficult time.

'Bugger' is the first thing that came to mind. I can't think of anything
more useful than that, unless that summoning trick would work one last
    time.

    Sheldon - Sheldon - Sheldon ...

    ....

    ...

    ..

    ...

    No...?

    Bugger. He'll be missed.

A great loss, I'm deeply saddened. He will be remembered for a long time.

The man and his web site was a legend, a fount of knowledge and filled with
love of bikes, life & good humour. He will not be forgotten. Sincere

    Requiescat in pace.

OK, a fitting memorial would be to ensure his website is preserved.
Do we know whose hands it's now in? If not, it might be a Good Idea
for someone to make a copy (privately - without violating copyright)
just in case a provider notes it's no longer paid-for and turns it off.
Of course its eventual fate will be up to his estate. Copying it is
just a measure of insurance, in case it escapes their attention until
    it's too late.

  10. Awful news. I emailed him once and was amazed to get back a detailed,
helpful and friendly response from 'the man himself'. He will live on in his
words, which will continue to help millions, so long as there's an internet
    and bicycles. RIP.

He shall be missed by a great many people who never met him but with
whom he shared his wealth of knowledge.

    <Sheldon RIP>

Sheldon will be sadly missed by me personally and by cyclists everywhere.
The fact that he was a real-life technical expert who even posted here on
occasion showed, that unlike many talented people, he was happy to share
what he knew with those that didn't.

He was a true gentleman and may he now always have the wind behind him and
    the sun on his back.

There's probably no need to preserve it as various incarnations of his web
site going back to 1998 are permanently preserved at the wayback machine:

  17. Sheldon "Sheldon shake" Brown was the Sheldon Brown of cycling, what
    more can be said.

It is Sheldon "three cross" Brown's instructions that taught me to build
    and repair wheels.
From now on my two leading, two trailing wheel (never riden yet) will
    be called Sheldon.

  18. Bugger.

A lovely man, his site was an inspiration to me to start riding again
    and then ride fixed again.

We can all learn a great dealfrom his generosity, patience and good humour.

    He will be sorely missed.

Awful news! Like many I have found his website very helpful. I hope it
can be continued. My best wishes at this sad time to his family.
I also shall be naming my bike, a Langster, "Sheldon" in his honour.
    R.I.P. Sheldon, and thank you.
