Barbara (sf) wrote and told me that she posted something about me on
r.f.c., but none of the thread has appeared on my newserver. Strange...
I'm not sure exactly what she posted, but I'll try to recap...
Last Monday David had surgery for a total knee replace. So far at this
early date, it has gone brilliantly. The home nurse was here yesterday
and said that his incision looked perfect and not a trace of infection.
They have him using two machines here at home (as he did in hospital).
One is a coolant wrap for the knee that also has compression boots for his
feet and ankles to encourage good circulation and prevent clotting. The
other machine is an automated range of motion machine that he uses on the
bed, with the angle of knee bend varying automatically. The home nurse
comes twice a week and the physical therapist comes three times a week.
This will be for the next three weeks.
My situation was rather a surprise to me! Some months ago I hadn't been
feeling quite myself, a bit tired, then beginning to have balance issues.
I chalked the latter up to the fact that our land is uneven and our stairs
to the outside are a bit steep with no railings. However, when I went to
my internist he immediately wanted me to go for a stress test which I
failed miserably. It was at that point that I was scheduled for an
angiogram. I don't know how much detail Barbara posted, but during the
angiogram they discovered two serious blockages, one of which was 99%. I
guess I'm quite lucky that I didn't have a heart attack or stroke. After
they implanted two stents, though, full circulation was restored.
More recently I did a classic no-no, lifting a heavy box while bending
over and turning at the same time. I tore 3 ligaments in my lower back
and compressed 2 disks. David and I are quite a sight! Two old farts on
two walkers! <G> Supposedly, my injury should heal on its onw in a month
or so, but it sure hurts like hell.
As to my absence... Since we moved in late December, I haven't really
participated in any newsgroups. Can't seem to quite get back into it. I
guess there's just more to do at home, and certainly more to do at work,
and then there were the physical issues.
I checked into the r.f.c. website not long ago and was shocked at the
three most recent dear folks we lost. I read the detail on all but Ken
Davey, but could find nothing about him. Did his cancer return? He was
such a sincere and caring guy. All were a great loss.
I think about so many of you very often...
