We love the new house...moved in just before Christmas. Of course,
there's still lot's to do, both inside and outside. I guess you're
never really finished. <G> I especially love the kitchen, as it has a
nice island wherer the sink and dishwasher are located. The kitchen
counter layout is an "L", with the fridge on one leg and the range on
the other. I have enough counter space for all my portable appliances.
The cabinets are natural maple, with a dark granite-look countertop.
There are three long windows that overlook the back yard. One of these
will be replaced by a door when we add the deck and/or Arizona room.

Pictures? Yes, I will take some when my back is better and I've
straightened up the counters a bit. <G> We haven't taken any pictures
yet, but I won't forget.

Sounds like a nice place. I'm considering moving out of RI and further
south because honestly salaries in my field are $20K higher in the south
and housing is less than half the cost of what it is here.l

Had one job offer that would have had me living in the Tampa bay area
for 6 to 12 months then moving back here to the northeast. Nope, nothing
doing.

The 90° temps feel quite comfortable here in AZ, but 110° and above for
weeks on end becomes a bit much. We moved here in 2000 to get away from
the NE Ohio weather. Never liked it.

I can understand. I'm from RI and we're on about the same latitude as
Ohio so we get fairly brutal winters.

The last few years have been odd though. The pattern has been snow/ice
one day, then dry ground next. That's how warm it's been.

He'll be fine. They don't expect him to require any chemo or additional
therapy, just some recovery time as the incisions heal. He's just playing
about being semi-helpless. I should salute Ophelia at this point and say
"Men!" LOL

His surgeon told me he should be up, about and doing lots of things by now.
What he's about is sitting in his recliner watching The Food Network. I
find The Food Network extremely boring.

I'm confident he'll be okay. It will just take a little recovery time. And
he needs to get out of that recliner 😉

LOL yep! They are so helpless! When he was having a party once he cut his
finger slicing carrots... "JILL!!!" Holding his hand up with a towel
wrapped around it. "What, you need a band-aid?" Yep. It was just a
band-aid, not a trip to the emergency room. Oh you poor dear. Now shut up
because you're the one who invited all these people!

I'll finish slicing the carrots. I suspect he cut his finger so I'd slice
the f***ing carrots. Some vegan person told him carrots were THE thing. No
one wanted the carrots.

That was, however, the night we hosted a murder party. That was great fun.
We should do that again sometime.

Last Monday David had surgery for a total knee replace. So far at this
early date, it has gone brilliantly. The home nurse was here yesterday
and said that his incision looked perfect and not a trace of infection.
They have him using two machines here at home (as he did in hospital).
One is a coolant wrap for the knee that also has compression boots for his
feet and ankles to encourage good circulation and prevent clotting. The
other machine is an automated range of motion machine that he uses on the
bed, with the angle of knee bend varying automatically. The home nurse
comes twice a week and the physical therapist comes three times a week.
This will be for the next three weeks.

My situation was rather a surprise to me! Some months ago I hadn't been
feeling quite myself, a bit tired, then beginning to have balance issues.
I chalked the latter up to the fact that our land is uneven and our stairs
to the outside are a bit steep with no railings. However, when I went to
my internist he immediately wanted me to go for a stress test which I
failed miserably. It was at that point that I was scheduled for an
angiogram. I don't know how much detail Barbara posted, but during the
angiogram they discovered two serious blockages, one of which was 99%. I
guess I'm quite lucky that I didn't have a heart attack or stroke. After
they implanted two stents, though, full circulation was restored.

More recently I did a classic no-no, lifting a heavy box while bending
over and turning at the same time. I tore 3 ligaments in my lower back
and compressed 2 disks. David and I are quite a sight! Two old farts on
two walkers! <G> Supposedly, my injury should heal on its onw in a month
or so, but it sure hurts like hell.

As to my absence... Since we moved in late December, I haven't really
participated in any newsgroups. Can't seem to quite get back into it. I
guess there's just more to do at home, and certainly more to do at work,
and then there were the physical issues.

I checked into the r.f.c. website not long ago and was shocked at the
three most recent dear folks we lost. I read the detail on all but Ken
Davey, but could find nothing about him. Did his cancer return? He was
such a sincere and caring guy. All were a great loss.

You might be thinking of the "pepper sauce" I usually keep on hand. I
don't really know the name of the pepper, but its a garden variety about 1
to 1-1/2" long and slender, may be red or green. I slit the side of the
peppers and loosely pack a pint jar full, add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1
teaspoon of sugar. Last of all, I fill to within 1/8" of the rim with
boiling hot vinegar (sometimes white, sometimes cider). It can be BWB'd if
you want, but I don't usually bother. Store at room temperature for at
least a month before using. Longer is better.

You can replenish with boiling vinegar at least once or twice before
replacing the peppers. Of course, the peppers can also be eaten.

Then again, this may not be at all what you were thinking of. :-)
