  1. It was 10 kms in mountainous terrain. I walked fast up the hills and
walked down a lot of the hills. I assume running downhill is hard on
your shins. At no point was I really breathing heavily. At the finish,
it felt like I had gone for a walk in the park.

    Questions:

    1. Is running downhill that bad for your shins if you jog at a slow
    rate?
2.Does interrupting your running by walking reduce your chances of
injury. I mean, can you run a lot further without injury if you have
    interruption in the running?
3.Does running up and down hills versus running of the flat lessen
    your chances of injury?

I have an adventure race in 4 weeks so I need to up my running
drastically. I will work more on my biking because I assume you can
improve uphill biking faster than you can improve running?

Let's just say it it puts extra pressure on the shins. If your shins are
a problem area then it may [censored] them off. Sometimes slowing the pace can
help and other times it can hurt. It's more about downhill(and the
degree of downward slope) technique and pace.

This is a loaded question with a hundred different answers. If one has
say PF and they run uphill they will really [censored] the fasciia where
walking up will have less impact albeit just a little less smart in
general because hills and PF are oil and water. What is consistent is
that walking casuses less impact and if you have a problem where impact
is a factor, then you need to walk, bike or pogo stick. Do you really
think there is an easy/single answer to this???

Come on even you must know by now that running up and down hills causes
more stress then level ground. You get injured when you do too much, too
soon too fast on any surface but hills can up (pun intended) the ante.

All training is about intermixing an variety of terrain, paces and or
hard/easy days to allow recovery. Speaking of recovery, does this notion
even echo in you synapse structure.

I'd just go out today in do 20 miles of severe up and down hills to
hurry up and get in shape. You want drastic, try this. Follow this and
you can really claim I [censored] you up. Maybe you should get healed before
you do a race. Nah, just push on, I've grown to love your whininess and
maybe others will learn what not to do from you.

You can abuse yourself with the bike, snowshoes, skis, etc. also.
Everything in moderation. Another interesting notion for your
vocabulary, moderation. Let's hope you learned two new concepts today,
    recovery and moderation.

I think you are forgetting about the concept of recovery. If I did
what you suggest, I would likely be put out of commission for a long
period. Im trying to find the optimal level of intensity and frequency
of exercise to maximize efficiency. You shouldnt train at maximum
intensity . Lower intenstiy means better recovery and higher tolerance
for more exercise. The problem is that low intensity and higher volume
of exercise is pretty boring. If moderations was the optimal choice, I
would just run 5 kms 4 times per week and be happy with that. My goal
is to be superman. I want to fly. I want that feeling of knowing Im
    the best. 🙂

Maybe you take up something more exciting like watching synchronized
swimming. This boring stage is where you slowly build a base and
strength and your best odds for staying injury free. Your water spider
impatience is what keeps you wounded and whining.

Some day you will learn to read and then comprehend the basics. Until
then you're a disaster in progress. No sarcasm - pure fact! Since your
race is in 4 weeks you best hurry and ramp up to 90 -100 miles a week
over the next 3.5 weeks and then a two day taper of speed work.

About 20 years ago I knew someone who did the London M after only
three training run (each about 10 miles). However he was a metabolic
freak. He also loved running stairs, up and down. His normal runs were
around 3 miles. He had a good set of legs and was a bit of a freak. He
often ran barefoot, never felt the cold. AND didn't waste a second of
his life whining and complaining about anything. [Maybe _that_'s the
    "secret" [TM] ).

I'm going to up my running time by 2 minutes per week . I hope that
once I get to an hour of running it will become more challenging
cardiovascular because right now (38 minute runs) it is really boring.
I'm concentrating on my up hill mountain biking for now. Im trying to
shift towards more volume and less intensity. I spent most of last
year focusing on kayak racing. I plan to do some trail running races
this summer (13 kms , 400 meter elevation gain). I will walk fast up
the hills and take it easy on the downhills. I will do a short
triathlon in 2 months(swimming/running/biking). Most adventure races
have been cancelled. My main goal is to avoid injury and increase my
overall conditioning. I'm definitely not in a position to worry about
where I place in any races this year. I will leave that for next year.
