Many thanks to all who have helped me so far. I've replaced my Freewheel
and rear Derailleur no fuss because of the advise given here. Its
certainly more rewarding than asking a bike shop to do it!
Whilst I'm doing such works on the bike, I thought I'd replace all
cheaper/warn parts, and I've come to the Bottom Braket which is loose
which is at times noisy.
Its currently got an awful thing which is all separate parts - cups,
cones and loose bearings.
Talking to the guy in a local bike shop today (not my usual one - I was
in a different town) and he said it was possible to remove it and fit
the newer style cartridge. However he also said i'd need about 4
different tools which would cost in excess of £30 to purchase and he
could do it cheaper.
Could anyone confirm if this is the case? He did point out from his
range roughly what tools would be needed, however there was one which he
pointed to (it was a spanner) he didn't ID it or say what it did
exactly, but it looked at least twice the size of the bottom bracket!
Ideally I'd like to replace it myself so that I'm familiar with doing
such work in the future.
