"Will you be ditching your car in favour of a bicycle in 2007?"

Go forth and vote! :-) As I write this, I'm the sole "yes" vote. *sniff*

That would be a "yes", then. :-)

4. done. Anyone have a bot-net for hire? I'm sure we can get this close to 99.9999% in favour of YES.

😉

Shame there's not a "Use your pushy more and car less" option. With 3 junior
cableguys, only one of which can maintain any sort of reasonable speed on a
bike, a car is still unfortunately way more convenient. I did manage to
reduce us to just one car though this year. :-)

As someone who has never held a car license, or indeed owned one, I face a small moral dilemma voting in this "poll".

Ok, fk it ...

I can't ditch my car in '07, I don't have one ....
admirable, I would like to say the same....one day, probably sooner than later, meanwhile ... I'm a problem...6 bikes and three cars( the 3M's), well one for part time use 'cos M1 was just recently written off so still legally mine till I settle the claim, M2 is in the "garidgedforever" category, only driven when hell freezes over, and the M3, (to replace M1), I have named BB for "bio-diesel babe" is for trips beyond biking reason...

but wherever possible YES ...

as at 5-30 poll was :

Yes - 66%
No - 34%

Try the next best thing, ie: actual votes.

Currently working on that via contacts. 😉 🙂

11. seeing as how my car is a 68 vw beetle in the middle of a restoration (which has already taken 3 years and is nowhere near finished, one could go so far as to say its only just started.) i ditched my car in favour of a bicycle 3 years ago.

the question is, will i be ditching the 50cc scooter in favour of a bicycle in 2007? the answer is... at least 75% of the time, just like last year.

hmmmm... i agree, lets send this poll to every single one of our cycling buddies and really mess things up for the stats office!! 😉

Does my really ugly light truck count as a car? I'll only be doing
about 10,000km in it this year instead of 40,000...

BTW - perfect soundtrack for the windtrainer eh? 😄

Does anyone else feel uneasy about poll stuffing and biased self
(and friends of friends!) selected samples?

And besides, it's a poorly phrased question. I don't have a car to
give up, and I'm not going to stop riding my bike when practicalities
allow.

Well, the Age does disclaim the poll as being not scientific in nature.
They obviously understand the biases such polls introduce, so I have no
qualms about calling for a bit of poll stuffing in this case.

Quoted message said:

Indeed - I was thinking that my answer, strictly speaking, should be
"no", because I won't be giving up the car completely - just as much as
is reasonably convenient (meaning to/from work, and similar trips; my
dive trips, amongst other things, will still be in the car.)

as the Age suggest it is hardly a valid scientific approach to run a poll... and rest assured a.b isnt the only "interest" that will respond... or for that matter seek to encourage its brethren to do likewise!

as for the topic limitation, this is so common...the question postulator usually gets it so wrong and rather than offer choices that make sense (or nonsense if thats the aim), limit choices for whatever reason...laziness, agenda, too darn complicated an issue, or their general readership cant differentiate concepts more than on-off anyway, etc.

read between the lines and vote as you wish (even if your aim is to ensure the result is skewed anyway...ah!) remember the 2006 ABS Census?...who is a bicyclist/velocipedist/bentist(?...hmmm verybentist?) by religion?
